Hanging Dog Ranch Barn Fight

I am trying to figure out why John Marsten (Jim Milton) is unable to punch during the Barn fight against the Laramie gang leader after killing all the bad guys outside.

I am able to block the punches, but even then I eventually die, and cause him to whiff by stepping back when punch thrown, this has gone on for over 5 minutes until out of stamina.

But I can not attack/throw a punch regardless of how much I spam the attack button (left mouse button) anybody else have this problem or am I supposed to die there? Or it could just be a dev feature.

Ok, after attempting to complete over 10 times never able to throw a punch and watching videos where John does throw punches in this fight that my situation is a glitch in my game. I have tried canceling but it just sends me back to start of mission it seems that it is required to complete this mission...but without being able to punch, I guess this is the end of game in my case.

Unless someone has a suggestion to fix this glitch. Also curious if this has happened to anyone else or a know bug?

Even though you posted this months ago, I"m having a problem now where even though I CAN punch the bad guy in the barn, my punches seemingly have zero effect. I can block, etc, but his punches REEL me or knock me over. (I"m using KB/M ONLY). I gave up after a long battle each time, and unfortunately my only save or auto-save was before the battle outside the barn with all the baddies...so I have to go through all THAT again just to GET to the indoor barn-fight...first time I've really felt absolutely frustrated in this game. DID you eve figure it out?

Thanks to a kind person who posted this in the Steam GUIDES portion for RDR2, here's how to get past any bugs or unbeatable checkpoints. I was able to skip this unwinnable and buggy fight!
<<<Press "ESC" or Left Mouse Button and hold to skip cutscenes.
During gameplay press "L". Your mission will be at the top of the list, press Enter. Hold "SPACEBAR" to abandon.
Hold "ENTER" to retry checkpoint, do this twice and on the third time you will be able to press and hold Right "SHIFT" to skip 1 checkpoint.
Sometimes checkpoints are short, so there is no need to do this. But you have to know in advance.
You can also fail missions through other means, like killing your character with dynamite, alerting law, getting too far away from target, or doing one of many other things Rockstar doesn't want you to do during their railroaded missions. However, the method I describe here works for any situation, even when you can't move and/or kill your character.>>>
