It's an issue with the game engine not hardware. Gezz how difficult is this to understand??
Just because you don't have an issue, doesn't Invalidate the fact that others do.
I can't even understand why people are posting in here that don't have similar spec'd pcs, nor game at similar settings. Clearly lower resolutions,or lower settings aren't having this sorta crash or Nvidia cards would be crashing badly with their tiny amounts of vram.
Forgot to mention my resolution is 3440 x 1440.

Have you ran afterburner and noticed vram never being cleaned while playing?
Also the vram issue isn't the only reason for all the crashes.ive had mine crash while the game was launching,I've also had other Miscellaneous crashes that usually happen within the first few minutes that can't be related to the vram issue.
But all of those seem to have been fixed by deleting a few files in the settings.xml in "Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings"
Because if people with lesser-spec'd pc's and video cards can play with almost all settings maxed for hours on end without any vram leak issues, then the problem is with the game engine and certain HARDWARE configurations, or else vastly more people would be having this same problem. It seems to be isolated to those with very high-end, relatively new cards . . .what are the odds that those cards may have issues that are causing confilcts with the game engine? Probably pretty good . . .
"Gezz how difficult is this to understand??" For some folks, quite a bit it seems . . .
Plenty of people have already stated they game at lower resolutions with lesser hardware and have no issues.
Also if you are one to stay in one area for hours at a time or die often,it's unlikely you will ever run into the vram leak,as I clearly stated multiple times that the work around for the vram issue is to save then reload that save which cleans out the vram during the reload which also happens when you die.
So for the vram issue lower end rigs that game at 1440p and below will rarely experience it as those textures are much smaller thus much more of them can be fit into vram..
I'm going to download AB and test. What lines did you remove from settings.xml ?
Yo I think you're right, low end cards never have the stutter
Make sure you set up Afterburner to show your vram used and have osd setup. Once mine gets up to around 12-14gb(because I have a 16gb gpu) I save then reload that save and it will clear out the vram.
You don't edit the settings.xml. rather you delete all files but the settings.xml in "Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings".
I believe I read that some sorta cache files get stored there and can cause some crashes..
my Workaround: wait for main menu screen to be up, give a few moments, pretty music and waving trees, ok now alt tab and set cap window+startCap.
RTX 2070, DX12, ultra
The only way to fix this, is to switch to DX12 or deactivate SAM in your Radeon settings.
Your game wont run as smooth as it did before, but its better than crashing every 2-3 hours.
edit: I swear to god, Ive never encountered such a huge pile of garbage, when its about the stability.
So many different errors and almost no updates from the publisher.
Gpu 6800xt
Ram 32gb
Ssd 1tb 2tb
Win10 21h1
Still same problem.
Vulkan and SAM on. According to Radeon driver overlay, VRAM went to 16047MB
The last RDR2 Update caused this issue for RX 6000 and RX 5000 cards.
If you ask me, I dont think that they care. Were talking about Rockstar here.
The same Rockstar, who forces you to use a Internet connection while playing offline games.
I wouldnt expect wonders. ;)
Just get used to it, or deactivate SAM, switch to DX12 or try to switch to "windowed mode", as soon as your VRAM hits 13000-15000MB.
That should buy you some time.
