Problem joining a friend <Incompatible assets error>

Can anyone point me to a guide to trobleshoot this issue?

Already tried :
- Turning off my firewall
- checking game cache on my pc (my friend will do it later today)

is your friend playing the game on the epic platform? also, more details in case someone here has the urge to be helpful ;) no i am not sure why playing it off epic would cause a problems, but that "incompatible assets error" makes me wonder....

We both are on steam, I do have a bit more information, it seems I can play online properly with other people. For some reason he is always alone when he checks the player list.

He does use the game in french tough. I doubt this would have any impact.

;( i am sorry to hear that. the problem does sound weird tho. back when the game was on sale (online only version) for $5 my friend bought it. had to do some preliminary quests first, but we were able to play together just fine (he was grumbling about how much faster my arabian horse was) both of us are on steam. i wonder if some bits of data, like the player list might not be getting blocked by, ok, gonna say it, your firewall. i hope you get better help than me soon ;) good luck. the french thing shouldn't matter. but for giggles see if you set your game to french if it is fixed

Its on my friend's side but unfortunately rockstar is not much help as there seem to be no be a real guide / tool to troubleshoot connection problems. The funniest thing is gta 5 works fine.
Tried closing windows defender to see if its a firewall problem. It does not seem to be.
I am trying to help him with his virgin mobile modem which has the most confusing interface I have ever seen, from what I can piece togeter there is no integrated firewall on his modem.
Ill try sending an help request to Rockstar maby well recive an awnser one day.

who knows, it isn't guaranteed to solve your problem, but it may point you in a different direction, thus bringing you closer to a solution. i know, i cheated, i did a web search LOL. good luck friend. ps make sure you read the entire post, people were accusing the one who posted this of modding? yeesh. yeah, i read all of it myself. it might be risky. do a bit of research before trying it. if anyone else wants to chime in, please do
