Fishing problems SOLVED!
Can't catch a fish - neither could I using an Xbox One controller. Spent hours trying. Solution - don't use Xbox controller, you may wreck your controller. Use keyboard and mouse. With keyboard and mouse I caught a fish every time 3/3. I completed the 'take Jack fishing' mission on PS4 but for the love of God could not catch a single fish on PC version. It's the Xbox controller, it is useless. Reeling in actually makes the fish go farther away.

Not to be insulting, but I assume you just did something wrong when fishing with your controller. I have no trouble using a controller while fishing. Mind that there is a setting you can change that allows you to reel in by holding down X rather than rotating your stick like a madman.

You probably didn't need to repost that. If you have to change it to a button press maybe there really is a problem with the xbox controller. You can only reel as fast as the game will let you so you never have to reel like a madman. When it's working right just casually rotating the stick will get you the max speed. The only two speeds are max and slower for trolling to attract fish like flicking the line. Fishing should be easy on small and medium fish. With big fish the key is to start reeling (or hold) a few seconds before they stop fighting to minimize how far they pull the line out. Probably every person who ever played the game tried to reel faster on big fish but it doesn't have any impact.

I mean you were going clockwise, right? IRL sometimes you give a fish line on purpose but you don't need it in the game. Maybe you can and maybe they accidentally have it reversed.

Glad you found a way to do it that didn't involve skipping the mission.

Of course I followed the instructions, I said I did on PS4. Reeling doesn't work correctly on Xbox controller, it doesn't do anything. With keyboard and mouse reeling almost wasn't necessary.
I didn't have to re-post but I wanted to because when people use search to look for answers instead of scrolling through threads and reading about problems, the top post of this gives a solution.
I'm sure Steam servers have the space.

Just tried it ingame, reeling with rotation works just fine. There is no issue with the Xbox controller.

No issues here either with a wireless Xbox 360 controller, but hey - at least you got it done with M&KB. Thankfully there's very little mandatory fishing in the game.

I'd be surprised if the xbox controller was messed up but I was giving the op the benefit of the doubt since he was able to do it with a dualshock. I meant O'dimm probably didn't need to repost since it was the same person who started both threads. Thanks for clarifying about the xbox controller, though.

If OP feels the need to start two threads regarding the same issue why can't I answer both of those? lmao

Sorry to necro an old post but this is one of the few I found that mentions fishing and the XBox controller. And I have to agree. There is some kind of problem with reeling in fish with the XBox controller that isn't present when using mouse+keyboard. On mouse and keyboard the reel in option is space. Pressing space + R reels in faster. I have yet to find a XBox controller key that gives you the option to reel in faster. Pulling up or down on the left stick to pull the fish in then reel faster to get it closer also seems a bit wonky to me as well.
