Valentine crashes at the exact same spots and daytime
Hello,

I have strange crashes to desktop when I go past the hotel on the left side leaving the town / or on the other side where the church and the sherrifs office is.

My rig:

CPU: AMD ryzen 9 3900x @4,2ghz @ 1,281V LLC high P95 small FFT stable Watercooled
GPU: RTX 3090 MSI SUPRIM @107% PL +60mhz core +600mhz Mem Water cooled @ 48C
RAM: 64GB (2x32GB) 3600mhz CL16 Crucial Ballistix Memory
MOBO: Gigabyte Aorus Extreme x570
PSU: Enermax D.F. Platimax 1050
SSDs: 2x 1TB SSD 970 evo, 2x 2TB SSD 860 Evo, Game is installed on the second M.2

All other games run fine but that game seems to crash very often.

It only happens once the day reached a height where there are almost no long shadows and disappears at sunset.
I can 100% repeat that. running around in town or outside in the nature for hours without a crash works but as soon as I want to leave the town on those 2 Ways out... it crashes.

I bet that this issue will occur in a lot of other towns aswell so I halted my progression here but because this game released more than a year ago I do not hav high hopes that this will get fixed.

Interestingly, running the ingame benchmark does work without crashing multiple times in a row and I could play the whole game till I reached Valentine without a single crash.

What I have tried to remedy this issue:
-removing Overclocking and tried to Downclock /undervolt / GPU CPU and Memory.

-lowering gamesettings everything to LOW and upping every single setting but it already crashes at low settings

-verifying game files - everything seems ok.

-switching between DX12 and Vulkan to no avail.

-changing from Borderless windowed to Fullscreen.

-activating Vsync and tripplebuffering + framerate limit.

-shutting down RTSS and Afterburner before starting the game.

-disabling Steam overlay ( which got stuck anyways )

-activating Async compute doesn't work either.

- tried to move game files to SATA SSD to remedy possible PCIe bus issues. same results.

Edit, I did some retesting and the problem still persists.

Installing it on a fresh windows on a new SSD didn't work either.

Now I get an additional problem.

the Sound is popping and crackling in this game especially in Cutscenes.

How can a finished product be so broken??

It makes no sense and it is very frustrating because I actually really wanna cap it at like 80. Idk if that's your problem but it might be worth a shot

You seem to have everything well organized and in order.
ALso you've been doing all the things people would tell you to do first before starting this topic.
Awesome!

That said: I am afraid you might be having a persitant bug and you have to "sit it out" untill it magically is fixed one day like many other (minor) bugs.

The things that people would suggest are done by you, so the chance is huge that it is not at your end (like most of the bugs).

I had certain point where I would crash for 100% of the time too. ANd all of the sudden I realized those were gone somehow after a (long) while.

With every "bug fix" lately, it seems there comes 20 new (and old) bug back for it.

Is it still crashing for you, OP?

Could be related to latest patch they did?
LeChuck Mar 1, 2021 @ 12:19pm
i have not tested it with recent nvidia drivers. Will test tomorrow.

sadly after a few GPU drivers, a fresh windows install on another hard drive and redownloading the game. still crashes.
Direct X 12 doesn't even start, crash directly in the splash screen.

I have 72 games installed and all of them except this game run flawlessly.

Welp I guess I just can't play this game on my high end PC...

Have you tried just lowering you GFX settings like to medium or something or turning stuff off? I know it sucks since you have a monster rig but could be a setting.

yes, i said this in my original post.

My bad I skimmed it, this game has bizarre problems. I tried looking through dozens of posts about this crash and no one really has a solution besides switching the GFX API... here's some more stuff to try:

Add Rockstar folder to Defender exception.

In Windows 10. Go to Settings – Apps & features – optional features. click on "Add a feature" and choose "Graphics Tools". Install and Restart once its done. Then try Directx12?

Ok I tried it out to run around at the crashing spot while afterburner and Rivatuner are unhooked and detection level is set to none.

no crashes so far.

I am 100% sure that this didn't work half a year ago.

Thanks dude to bring this up again.

problem solved!

I gave you all my points with awards! KEK
