There are a few times when the realism is tedious. One bullet at a time!!!!
Different ammo to the Springfield.
[Edit after a long time I came back and realized I could have explained better so I will, Skip original post as I'm keeping it for post history]
Each weapon goes into a category as to which ammo it can use. and within each category there's ammunition types, such as regular, high velocity, explosive etc,
The categories are
Revolver (Revolver ammo - IRL rimmed cartridges)
Pistol (Pistol ammo -IRL rimless cartridges)
These two are separated because without too long of a post, Revolvers have a rim on the cartridge that make it work better for revolvers where pistols don't have a rim because that would mess things up.
Repeaters (repeater ammo -IRL flat nosed ammo)
RIfles & Sniper Rifle (Rifle ammo -IRL pointed tip. In game the difference between sniper and rifle is that snipers force you to use a scope and you don't get auto aim, Snipers are just rifles that are built for longer range shooting at the expense of CQC)
Technically all repeaters are rifles but not all rifles are repeaters, the reason we have to separate these ammos because in "normal" rifles you load them on top of each other or one at a time etc and it works just fine.
However in a repeater the cartridges are stored in a line in a gun, and if a pointed bullet hits the back of another bullet it can possibly cause it to go off and give you a bad day. so their points are removed so that doesn't happen.
and finally shotgun( shells) They're all universal through shotguns.
IRRC (I haven't played in a long time) there are two exceptions to these categories.
Lemat revolver- which can fire all revolver ammo and the basic shotgun shells only.
Varmint rifle,(.22-IRL .22short I believe) Technically a rifle, but it's a repeater, but it's chambered in .22 Which is unique to the varmint rifle. which is much smaller than the repeater's cartridges and more is intended to shoot rabbits or squirrels rather than combat.
[Original post]
Rifle and repeaters do not use the same ammo types that's like trying to put a revolver round into a rifle. A repeater's bullet is stored in a tube of the gun in a line has to be flat so it doesn't set off any other rounds. Rifle rounds aren't loaded from a tube/they're stacked so they can be pointed
The springfield is a single shot rifle, the only two snipers right now are the rolling block and the Carcano. The difference between a sniper and rifle is that snipers require that you use a scope and you cannot use aim assist but other than that, are just rifles.
I think your confusion comes from repeaters look like rifles and in real life are rifles, but the ammo difference put them in seperate categories.
Repeaters, generally have a capacity around 10, are faster, and not very high damage, rifles are slower, lower capacity of 5 or 6, unless a single shot like your springfield and deal more damage. Only exception to that is the varmint rifle which is a .22 and 20 round capacity, and damage like your flicting it and is intended for small game like rabbits, squirrels, etc
Also you're welcome I'll there's anymore confusion I can try answering tomorrow
