Does Uncle really have Lumbago?
I suspect he's lying to get away from work.

Well, you can get Lumbago from lack of exercise. So Uncle, ironically, has Lumbago because he has always been lazy, therefore getting an excuse to be lazy.

'Lumbago is considered by health professionals to be an antiquated term that designates nothing more than lower back pain caused by any of a number of underlying conditions. The pain may be mild or severe, acute or chronic, confined to the lower back or radiating into the buttocks and upper thighs'

SO IT'S PRETTY MUCH BULLSH**

No, it's a symptom rather than a source cause. Which, outside of modern (as in, post WW1) medicine, most stuff was treated on a symptom driven basis, simply because a lot of the core causes straight up didn't have any info about them. A lot of people forget how much of a leap in medicine has occurred over the past 100 years, not just in raw 'these treatments now exist' but in 'these treatments are available' let alone 'We have an actual doctor in play' as opposed to a dentist or veterinarian having to play at town doctor.

Don't know for sure what's going on and how to fix it? Treat symptoms as shown for sake of improving quality of life. It's a thing they do even now when they either can't treat or can't find the source of the issue.

Put bluntly, Uncle may or may not actually have lumbago, and given the drastic differences in what can cause it and severity, he could sit anywhere on the spectrum from 'perfectly healthy, just lazy' to 'if he tries to bend over, his spine lights aflame'.

Poor Uncle with terminal Lumbago, I hope he gets to live long enough that modern medicine will save him.
nah - i guess he will be fine and die peacefully around 1920 or so ;)

He's still alive, in all of my games. Things can't be that bad.

Are you downplaying the seriousness of someones disease, a person's personal hell? That is mighty cold and unkind of you! Your honor just lowered a little.
