Use the bow, with small arrows (takes time to get access to them). And, I use the varmet riffle and get three star pelts, if the rabbit is three stars already.

Why should I use the bow? I've looked it up and everyone says use the Varmint rifle or however its called, which I do, and I do look if the rabbit has three stars. I shoot them once with the rifle but it will only give me bad pelts, even the ones with three stars ... is this luck based?

You don't have to, it's up to you....

You can use either weapon. people use varmint because the ammo is easier to come by than special arrows.

Small game arrows have a better chance of leaving a 3 star if you didn't get a perfect shot from my experience.

In order to get a perfect pelt, you must shoot the animal in a critical region like the head or heart. NEVER ANYWHERE ELSE. This can be hard to do on smaller animals like the crab.

Their critical spots can be seen in eagle eye in story mode or with paint it black card in online.

Okay I get it. Then the problem is that my aim is bad. Unfortunately it is very hard to hit the rabbits well from the horse even with dead eye. I also don't have it upgraded which means that the crosses get spammed automatically on the rabbit making it very hard to land one accurate shot. I will see what I can do, thx for the info about the accuracy.

Wen you go hunt a rabbit in story mode, what the guy tell to you use? Is a bow rigth, so, the bow is the BEST gun.

The game says in the description of the rabbit that it's best hunted with a Varmint Rifle. And I also have read that in all tutorials I have looked up on this topic.

I just landed a clean headshot and got my first perfect pelt by a 3* rabbit. So accuracy matters --> Confirmed!

Oh damn, I didn't know about that, thx a lot!
There is an old man who let you sit on his bonfire, talk a history about the dangerous brother and sister who eat ppl meat and then he leaves you alone in his camp, if you look around, he has a perfect rabbit pelt in his camp, its up to you take or not.
P.S.: The pelts on this camp are random, so, sometimes there are foxes pelts too
