Panthers.. I hate them.
These buggers are the death of me. Literally. I am hunting them for a perfect pelt. But damn thing gets me everytime. My horse just freezes , bucks me off it and then it rips my throat out lol. Anyone got some tips for these damn things ? I've baited them.. No luck . It seems waltzing around on my horse waiting for it to stalk me is the only way.

Wait until you meet a BIG bear, grumpy buggers they are.

Takes time to learn the game, get experience, and then you'll take em down, sometimes. All I can advise is keep your distance and use a killer rifle with sights.

I'm not sure I've come across a panther yet. But I find with grizzlies, cougars and wolves.
Listen to your horse. I know it sounds bizarre but you horse is always talking to you(feed me, etc). I hear my horse react, see a wave of red coming.

Choose a horse that can outrun predators and is only inclined to throw you rarely. Outrun the predator, then double back and dispatch it. Once you know it's general location it will be waiting for you. Choosing the right horse and repeatedly pressing G seems to keep you in saddle.

It's cougars that really **** me off, especially if I'm doing a simple mission like giving some NPC a lift to the nearest town.. you can be guaranteed a cougar will show up and make your life hell (and kill the NPC too). You can't even melee them with your knife once they've got their claws round your neck and guns don't seem to have any impact whatsoever. (I'm on PC/mouse so targeting them is tricky).

Bolt action or a semi auto shotgun can make quick work against those. But dont expect a perfect pelt with a shotgun.

I can add to what gaqo said. and you should use predator cover scent lotion. a good location for panthers are south Braithwaite Manor, thers a small hutt among the trees. either lay down predator baits and waith or run around that arear and you have a good chance of getting a panther.

Yup that is where I was . I actually got a perfect pelt after 3x dying to the damn thing lol. It is crazy how quick it will jump on you. I used my bolt action sniper rifle. Did the trick. It did not help I had bounty hunters on my ass too .

yeah the panthers and cougars are the same thing in this game. They just call them panthers as well. So yeah , I feel ya lol. They are a pain in the ass. Bears and wolves are nothing compared to these man hunters. If you don't pay attention to the map ..it will hop on you in no time.

Yup I have a great horse. It is that White stallion you can find in the mountains up north. Female , very very fast but not as big. Also very temperamental . However, it is a nice looking horse lol !

You know where they spawn, just preemptively get off your horse and keep your eyes glued to that radar waiting for that red dot, then get your dead eye ready.

Trying to examine these lil fellas was nearly impossible for me. When I saw one it already was approaching... a real predator :Please:

When they decide to maul me I throw them off thinking, "You're actually lucky you're endangered, I'm not going to kill you for that".

Panthers are mountain lions though. I'm sure I have killed one.

It did sound in your OP that the horse is the main problem. There's a certain nerdy element to this game which I like. So native breeds like Nokota and Mustang seem more adept in wilderness, are fast and don't panic. Obviously they would be used to these predators as native tribes used them. Imported horses from Europe freak out.

I'll never get rid of my reverse dapple Nokota. It can stand 30 M from wolves or a cougar without being bothered. A good test is to see how close you can get your horse to stand in front of an alligator. Good horse will get within 4 M.

I'm actually collecting all three Arabians, got two, black and white and off to look for red later. I keep them in the stable like a horse bank.

I have a similar morality in the game. I wouldn't shoot a bison or a beaver, and do that Deer Hunter(film) thing, where I aim at a great beast and don't kill it.

The actual Honour meter seems a bit ridiculous. If I free some slaves or throw a fish back I get one good point. If I rob a dead man I get one bad point. Pelts are so worthless, I only kill a predator if it keeps after me. Deer and fish I kill for food.
Bobywan 2020 年 12 月 23 日 上午 8:39
I never found a panther in 140h of gameplay except the legendary one, but some cougars.
They are a pain in the a if they manage to one strike you while you were hunting for pelts as you may lose all of them. Most worthless autosave feature ever.

In my experience, most predators will just growl and stare at you if you find a good size rock to stand on making killing them incredibly easy.
