Red Dead Redemption 2

FPS Boost
I just bought the game. Three hours in I average 35 FPS. These are my specs:
RTX 2070
Intel i7
8GB video mem
16GB system mem

Please help me fix the FPS. I'd like to play at a solid 60 if possible.

set Water Physics slider and Grass Detail slider to lowest, and turn off Tree Teselation

all 3 of them are in the advance graphics at the bottom of the page

Your Monitor Resolution Matter Most. For your system, i would expect ~70 FPS average for 1080p, ~55 FPS average for 1440p (aka 2k), and ~25 FPS for 4k.

After months of mucking with it, here are the very simple steps i use:

1. Use GeForce Experience Optimization - it is very much better than game default.

2. Lower "high impact" settings you don't care about from the following list.

Done.

use NV Geforce program to auto-set for you, mine's 2070 avg 60 fps

I can't even lower any of the sliders without the game crashing. This is probably the worst optimization for a game I've ever seen...

GeForce Experience Optimization runs outside of the game - do that before starting the game

switch to DX12 then, Vulkan is the default and its not as stable, crashed on me once too on that API

I also play this in RTX2070, Ryzen 7 processor, but I get 60-70 FPS. I let my Geforce software optimize the game for me.

The game is optimized perfectly fine but ultra settings aren't even close to "optimized" for most GPU's because the requirements far exceed the benifits just watch this vid and change your settings accordingly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1iNSyvIPaY

I don't understand how you're getting poor performance on an RTX card. I'm running this on a GTX 1650 Super using Digital Foundry's ''Xbox One X'' settings and I'm getting around 60fps with dips into the lower 50's. Maybe try turning down some settings and playing in 1080p if you're running it in 4K...

I have pretty much same specs, and have everything maxed out but Water Physics Quality (not reflection & refraction) turned right down.
Soft Shadows, Tree Tessellation, Vsync, Triple Buff, both MSAA & Motion Blur are all off & TAA on medium.

Only thing I have changed in NCP is power to optimal and running on 1080/144hz using Vulkan and latest drivers (457.09.) & HAGS is on in windows graphics options.
Average mid 70fps & no stutter.

Oh and TAA sharpness is 3/4

I run it in DX12, doesn't change a thing.

I did the same thing, and now I average 45 FPS, still much lower than it should be.

I'm playing in 1080p. Somebody else in this thread linked the Youtube video you're referring too, so I figure I'll watch that I see what I can do.

start by setting fullscreen and refresh rate. if you're using HDR you may not be able to use max refresh rate. my game has issues remembering framerate and fullscreen settings, i have to frequently reset them.
Next set resolution scaling to 1/2. It'll look blurry but should immediately get you to 60fps. Then try increasing that scaling ratio and tweaking other settings until you find something you're happy with. I'm playing with 4/5 scaling at 3440x1440 on an RTX 2060 at about 48 FPS with gsync
