Red Dead Redemption 2
PC keys for using Deadeye
I'm in Chapter 2 just before the Pouring Oil mission. I've tried to use deadeye to lock onto multiple targets but not sure if I'm using the right key. I've been using the Q key but it doesn't seem to be working or maybe I'm not doing it right.

Your dead eye will improve through story mission
just keep playing then you can tag enemy manually
Hmm. Try changing the hotkey. I personally remember having a lot of trouble with it, so instead of it being the middle mouse button, I remember setting it to Z. Not sure where Q came in with the default!
Until some point in story you only autotag enemies (which IMO not that needed, can be done without dead eye completely). Later you will be able to tag them with Q, various parts of body and so on.
So Rainmaker are you saying that I should be able to autotag multiple enemies right now. If so just how does that work. I have to use deadeye to target one enemy, shoot him and then turn deadeye off and on again to target another enemy. I'll admit I haven't had much practice with it at shooting more than one or two enemies because I'm not too sure if it's going to work right.

As I remember you turn it on and just drag aim reticule over enemies which are shining, and they will be tagged automatically, press shoot to execute (not sure about correct execution sequence tho). TBH all that autotaging I did not really understood how it works with multiple enemies too, but there was no need for that AT THAT time, so I did not bother much.
BUT later when it allows you to tag manually it`s really useful and understandable - turn it on, press Q as many time as you want and press shoot to execute.
i barely used deadeye on my first entire playthrough accept for missions that wanted me to use it, its honestly not needed
Without a weapon at the ready you will only activate some "focus mode" what becomes handy if you follow tracks of animals, doing story-wise stuff or highlight items.

Dead Eye only works if you draw your weapon. Then...
1. Middle Mouse Button or CAPS for Dead Eye activation
2. Q for tagging targets (available later)

It's tedious and not really needed if you play with mouse+keyboard and free aim configuration, but it can add some cool old western movie action into gunfights. Lastly it should be noted that this game is designed for controllers and should be played that way to get the full experience.
Your dead eye progresses with the game after certain missions.
- dead eye introduced with autotagging
- manual tagging, left-click shooting exits dead-eye mode
- left-click shooting in dead-eye mode does not exit it and you don't even need tagging
- fatal areas are highlighted in dead eye mode

Great info fellas, I've learned a lot just now. I really haven't used it much but I thought the multiple tagging would come in handy when the wolves are attacking. I usually end up dying and only killing two of them. Thank for the help and suggestions.

Also in order to tag multiple enemies in the same deadeye session you have to have a gun that has multiple shots before reload. These are the hand guns. If you have a rifle you will need to go into deadeye and tag your enemy, then fire and exit deadeye to reset it.

Toward the end of Chapter 2 you will get a mission with John "Pour forth the oit" or something like this. After this mission manually tagging multiple enemies will be unlocked. Again though you will need a handgun to do this or it will be one tag, one shot per session.

OK, thanks Kodiak, I plan on starting that mission soon so I will get to try out the deadeye tagging afterwards.
Eagle eye or dead eye?
I tap the center wheel to enable it.
Then press Q to mark enemies.

Thanks that is my set up also. Although I'm not sure just what the difference is between dead eye and eagle eye. I use only the center wheel and it seems to work.

Not only a handgun but any weapon that uses cartridges e.g. repeater
