I do not yet know how bothered i am if i do not get it on steam for the ach's, because they do not really do anything, but do i really want another launcher?..Seems a bit off to me.
The Steam Launcher kicks off the R* game Launcher, which then requires a R* Social Club login to start the game.
2) Is there offline play for the campaign if the servers are offline, or I am without access to the internet?
Offline gameplay doesn't exist - without an R* account and an internet connection, the game will not load. There is a mention to "offline" R* account settings - but with no internet (or server connection), the game will load (splashing "offline") and then refuses to move beyond the initial game load screen.
3) Do I always have to have Social Club program running in the background when playing RDR2 on the steam? (like other Rockstar Games)
The active software component that logs into the Social Club is the R* RDR2 Game Launcher - if you shutdown the Launcher, the game shuts down.
4) Are there any advantages / disadvantages when buying / playing game on steam vs on rockstar social club directly?
I play a few games through steam that have a secondary game launcher - i have not noticed any liabilities to using Steam for RDR2, although i have encountered liabilities on other games (like server sign-on bugs from Steam to the Developers server).
I prefer to use Steam for the maintenance activities. Games are updated automatically, and the installation is very similar to the non-Steam installation - but with Steam there is a common interface for purchase, install, and to have Steam verify the correctness ("integrity") of the installed game files which has identified a few installation errors (which may be Steams fault anyway). I am also able to Uninstall a game with a couple clicks, and re-install it just as easily (provided i have the internet bandwidth and time to wait for install - these games are getting huge).
But i am a bit biased - i have been using Steam for about 15 years without major issue.
Glad I don't play this game anymore & boycott RS for good
They got my $ for this rough piece of a game & are laughing.
Over 15 yrs using steam & I've never seen such a pathetic scam.
