horses
if i'm already aiming my damn horse in between two trees, then stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ forcing my horse to try and go all the way around them - usually forcing me to run directly into the tree - because this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI thinks it knows better

That always causes my horse to freakout and run directly into a tree. I swear the horses in this game are dumbest horses ever.

Some times I just think the R* put a wrong basic setting on horses in the game,
they are smart animal, not a motorcycle, they should have their own judgment to
avoid to bump into almost every obstacles.

In the game, they refuse to jump down a 1 meter high cliff,
but would hit a rock wall with their head without hestate no matter you
did that on purposely or unintentionally.

Some times they know to jump over a ranch fence no need your command,
some times they don't, then both of you and your horse fall over hilariously.
they don't even know to dodge away from a small bucket or wood box by
their own.

I usually yeet my horse off a cliff when it pisses me off like that. Of course, I'm still on the stupid thing when it dies, so I die too, but it's well worth it.

With enough beers it CAN be funny, though.

My horse always manages to touch the very tip/side of an object and both of us go careening into space. I swear it enjoys hitting things and sending us flying. Then it attempts to get up, all spastic and dramatic and I'm like "Look what you did, stop being a drama queen!".

As for the steering, it reminds me of riding horses irl. They can have a mind of their own and not want to behave and listen, and you'll be pulling on the reins to go one way but they'd rather go the other. Same with jumping, you want to jump over something but the horse isn't going to and balks. They are very large creatures with minds of their own while we are trying to steer them with bridles and saddles. I believe R* was going for realistic when it comes to horse behavior, even with obedience levels, lol.

I find that the Mustang that I tamed, the Tiger Striped Bay has a huge issue with walking through trees because she's got the dimensions of a Workhorse. I mean Mustangs are an all purpose horse, best if you see a lot of combat. Mine has plenty of health and pretty good recovery. She can absorb damage like nothing and recover quickly. And she was a pain to catch out in the wild, let me tell you! All that running around near a Fort armed to the teeth with Outlaws nearby. Once I was able to get on her back she tried bucking me off near a very steep cliff. And taming her wasn't the hard part. This particular horse is known for being the hardest to level and make completely docile. Lots and lots of stopping to calm her down, but once maxed I think all the trouble is worth it.

LOL. Not the AI, it's meant to be what the horse thinks is better. Because:

Problem is that a horse doesn't have third-person camera view of the forest terrain like you do.

Fwiw, IRL, riding in a forest, dodging trees, is not what your average horse-n-rider will do.

I'VE DONE THIS!! I'VE DONE THIS, TOO!!
For probably precisely the same reason, too. Fortunately, my horse and I had a 4-star relationship so he was willing to forgive. But, he got showered in fruit and veg' for a while after that.

My horse is a serial killler because s-key doesn't stop it. I have probably killed more pedestrians with horse that I have shot. S-key is all ways a stop key or going to backwards in every game so unlearning it is impossible. I have ridden a real horse and a camel. They don't try to run through walls as in this game.

LAWL
I've found spacebar brings my horse to a stop. Though, I've never tried at speed.
You're right, "S" just confuses and turns him around.

Left-Shift to accelerate
Left-Ctrl to slow down

I do this too and my horse kicks me to the ground and knocks my hat off. :(

I see this bs happening much more in online than story mode, in online they feel like they are on invisible rails, do not dare to turn and get too close to an obstacle or one of your posse buddies because the horse will autocorrect in the most overcompensating ways
