FIX FOR LOW VOLUME IN RDR2
Sadly with the last update there was an issue that makes some people's games lose nearly all audio content - the sound, music, etc. is still there but its now so low that people can barely hear it. Here is how to fix it until Rockstar finally notices and issues a patch for their patch.

(1) run the game.

(2) go to the VOLUME CONTROL icon in your OS (Windows) and select it.

(3) open VOLUME MIXER option and there you will see the various programs and applications which are using the computer for sound. Select Red Dead Redemption 2 or Red Dead Online (depending on which product you have) and change the volume so it's up to fifty percent or one hundred percent, depending on your choices.

A note and this may be important, when I tried to play the game yesterday the sound was so low as to be practically impossible to hear. Today when I logged in, I used the above technique and guess what? PERFECT sound! So that's how you fix it.

UPDATE: I've noticed a number of people complaining about having to do this. Consider it a life lesson in unexpected manual manipulation, or to put it in broader terms, ''mommy isn't here to take the doughnut out of the box for you so you have to do it yourself.''

Enjoy.

When I change the volume like you said the game kicks me out of fullscreen mode and I can't get back to fullscreen... It was already a mess to get the game to fullscreen because I had to change to DX12 instead of vulcan... I literally can't play this game...

This is NOT a fix. This is a workaround. I presume Rockstar is already fixing the issue, aren't you?

Try ALT-TABBING so Windows is shown, that way you do not get kicked out. Then go back to full screen by selecting the full-screen option from within the game. There is a shortcut via the keyboard that allows you to do this too, but I've forgotten what it is.

You can't please everyone and you know what, having a hissy fit about the word 'fix' is just being petty. It's a FIX for the problem until it can be taken care of properly by the company.

So it comes down to this, are you going to complain about something that does the job in the moment, or are you just going to complain about something that is better than what you had before?

Your comment is invalid under the circumstances, but I expect a witty retort just for the sake of a pointless argument.

It's not much to ask to just adjust it every time you play the game. Just remember that there will be TWO Rockstar options - the first one (if you have the client) will be for the Rockstar client itself and the other is the game audio which will be marked by the game's name.

So yeah, its a pain in the *** to keep doing it, but it's better than no sound at all.

Yep!

(1) find the icon on the bar at the bottom of yourt screen (typically Windows). It looks like a little speaker.

(2) right-click on it to bring up a menu and then select OPEN VOLUME MIXER from the options presented. Make certain Red Dead Redemption 2 is actually running.

(3) You will be presented with an image of the applications running that use sound. Find the Red Dead Redemption 2 icon, and may possibly see the slider is all the way down to zero or nearly there. Simply slide the slider UP until it's at fifty percent or better and go back to the game. The sound should now be restored.

Sadly until the patch that did this can be fixed, you will have to do this every time you play the game from here on in just to get the volume to a comfortable level.

You can thank Take 2's Greedy Ass for that. It's not Rockstar!!
