Movement speed
Can someone please explain to me how this works?
I cannot get Arthur to do what i want, when i want it,

Running, sprinting. He does whatever he feels like doing at the time. Why cant i just select a movement speed and use that. how hard is that?

Well, it depends on SHIFT. You don't have to care about point-and-click, you just need to know that if you press on shift, no mater you point and click or hold it, the character will speed up. For example, if you click shift, he will speed up a little and stop, but if you hold it, he will speed up to his max speed and lose strength point, then you leave the button, he will keep running but slow down to the speed that will not cost strength point. So, if you want to control the speed, it depends on how fast you click the button or how long you hold it, different holding time will be different speed. Hope this can help you.

Whenever i hit shift, he starts running or sprinting at random.
Im asuming you mean stamina?

Holding shift doesnt do anything. Stamina is full but he wont sprint. He just walks a little faster. But when i want him to walk fast, he starts springing. It so annoying

The controllers have run toggle but keyboard does not. The controls of this game are ♥♥♥♥ if not on a controller

Its an awesome game but the controls really need work.

Are you sure that you are not around camp?.. You are not allowed to run in camp & some other places. You only walk little faster like you said.

Well, i actually tried it in camp and he does run so it seems to be allowed. When i get back ill try it again somewhere else. Though as far as i can remember i have this issue everywhere but ill give it a shot.

Thanks

googled: red dead redemption 2 can you run in camp?
You can only walk fast in camp. In options you can select Toggle Run, which allows you to run in the open world and walk fast in camp with a single tap of X.

Seems weird to me that you can run in camp.

If you push the stick forwards all the way Arthur will move quickly. If you just tilt it a little he will walk. What's hard to understand?

I dont use a controller.
I ran quite a bit in camp so i guess they didnt mind (glitch maybe?), and keyboard does not have the run toggle.

Some games, especially these days, are just straight up better on a controller. If you've already invested into a computer that's good enough to run this game then I strongly recommend buying a controller to keep near your desk for those games. Now I get that you wouldn't normally think to use a controller for a game with so much shooting. I started this game on KB+M at first but after a dozen hours of so I realized that this game was really designed around the controller. Besides, you don't get haptics on most mice and this game uses them for mechanics like finding small objects on the ground.

Just because it was made for consoles doesnt mean that aiming in general is better on controller. Why do you think that in every game has autoaim & explosive barrels?..:lunar2019coolpig:

...no-one is saying that aiming is generally better on controllers. That's why when I installed this game I spent my first couple of days with it using the mouse. I'll always default to mouse for games with lots of shooting or games in first person.

I am considering getting a controller though i dont really like controllers. I noticed within the first 30 minutes that they forgot to tell the guys responsible for porting this game to PC to actually put some efford into the default controls of the system they were porting to. Which are mouse and keyboard. I can think of a few things to change that would make this play alot better on a mouse and kb which would be easy to implement but i guess things like that were not important enough.

I borrowed an xbox one controller to try the game with and surpirisingly it worked out of the box (linux).
The first thing i did was shoot someone by accident LoL

lol nice XD Also, little tip; you can operate the lever on carbines or the hammer on single-action pistols by quickly releasing and re-squeezing the Left trigger.

new rdr player here. I will not buy a controller for this!

So, what's the workaround on keyboard?

Important situation are the sprinting in combat situations.
For now he do his cool walk and dieing quickly before reach any cover.

How does the "Help sprint toggle, x2, x3, x4, hold" work? I think that will do it, but i do not get the point how that supposed to work.

That's so confusing. The horse gallopping by holding shift. But the actor do not act on by holding or dobble tapping Shift. So maybe it is double tapping W to run. And that way it's ugly implementation.

Don't get it for this game, get it just to have. If you only own a mouse or you only own a controller then you're playing with one hand behind your back. Unless you only play shooters. There are a lot of action games that are so specifically geared towards using a controller that using a keyboard is like trying to play COD on PC with a controller.
