No sound working at all?
Only sound that plays is when the Rockstar logo plays on startup

I had the same problem. While the game is in the background, I went in my windows sound settings which is located in System/Sound then under Advanced audio settings, click on app volume and device pref. then you should see a volume control for RDR2. For some reason mine was set to 8. I set it to 100 and everything sounds fine now.

Also, you will have to do this each time you load up the game. I guess what rockstar did was lower the volume for the shotgun logo since people were complaining that is was too loud. I guess they didnt make it so it would put it at 100 after that part.

Muss seit neuestem im Windows-Mixer den Sound nach Spielstart von 8% auf 100% stellen :-(

Also have this problem at every startup with the game. Since the last update. Everytime i start the game i must reset my RDR Windows Volume to max.

I've got no sound since the update either. I'm only getting the Rockstar logo sound at launch. My volume is staying at 100 in the Windows Advanced Settings for the game and is not being changed whenever I launch the game, unlike others here, so I'm stuck. I even messed with my Sonic Studio settings and still nothing. I'm going to try running the game in DX12 and see if that works.

No difference in DX12. The only way I can get any sound is to crank up my whole system volume to about 90, but doing that makes the Rockstar logo part of the game launch practically blast out my speakers. They need to unscrew up their screwup in the last patch.

Gosh, thought something was wrong with my headset or my computer. Glad I found this discussion.

I've actually got it to kind of work. I have a Realtek onboard sound card with Sonic Studio 3 to control the sound. Now on my system, the game is NOT changing the volume settings in the Windows control panel every time I launch it. But I did notice in the Sonic Studio 3 app in Advanced Settings that the Steam Client helper profile sound settings weren't the same as the Rockstar Client profile sound settings. One was set to Music and the other to Gaming, which are 2 totally different sound profiles. I also don't have a sound setting specifically for RDR2 in either Windows or Sonic Studio 3 on my system, so I'm assuming that both the Steam and Rockstar Clients are running the sound settings for RDR2 and maybe there's a conflict. All I've done right now is boost the sound for Steam in the Windows Advanced Sound Settings to 70, changed the sound profiles in Sonic Studio 3 to both Gaming and upped the voice clarity setting for both the Rockstar and Steam Clients in the Sonic app under the Gaming setting. At least I can hear things now but I'm not sure where the problem lies with this game. All I know is that it worked BEFORE the recent patch, even with my weird sound settings.

EDIT: OK, after much more fiddling, the above comments I made don't make a difference. The only way I can hear sounds is to crank up the system volume with my remote AFTER the Rockstar Logo goes by.

While the game is running, right click in the 'speakers' icon (bottom right hand side of desktop), select "Open Volume Mixer", scroll across to find RDR2, raise the volume. You will have to do this every time you load RDR2, because it will set the volume back to 8% again.

I don't have RDR2 in those settings. All that shows is Steam and the settings are NOT changing with each game launch for me. I guess I don't see it because the game is not running when I go into the Volume Mixer. What's the key command to minimize the game after launch?

Thx, helped me much.
I thought something is wrong with the sound volume. Checked it, and it was the same in my settings. Thx again !

ALT-Tab works too. What a PITA.
