Windows 7 is dead as of Jan 2021
That means no security updates for Windows 7 after that time, that also mean your copy of Windows will be vulnerable to attacks, hacks, etc.

If your copy of Windows 7 is genuine, then you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free, do a search on google for how to.

Windows 10 has better memory management, crash prevention, security, etc. It really is, in my opinion, the best operating system Microsoft has released, and free (if your copy of Windows 7 is genuine).

Oh, and games will run much better. Also, there is facility during the upgrade to keep all your programs (apps) and settings. If you are not running Windows 10, then you really need to upgrade.

Edit:

Support: phone support, questions answer, etc. Support has ended Jan 2020.

Updates: security and vulnerability updates via Windows Update. Updates will end Jan 2021.

Oh yeah what a great solution...

Microsoft extended support for windows 7 but dumped 8.x because a large number of enterprise level companies had not yet migrated from 7 to 8.x and were in no way prepared to jump to 10. The jump from 8.x to 10 is less of a leap than 7 to 10 when talking about business entities so 8.x's upgrade footprint was smaller.

Large organizations are notoriously slow to upgrade infra and technology due to the red tape involved. Microsoft gave all win 7 users extended support for the OS to give the business world time to plan the upgrade to win10.

TLDR: Win 7 users still have support for Win 7 because billions of dollars in Microsoft revenue was tied to major corporations dragging their feet on upgrades.

Or it's just that Win8 didn't sell as well as Win7 so MS thought they'd cut their costs and not bother with the upgrade to Win8. It's far more likely.
No. It's the infrastructure of major clients. I was working tightly in Microsoft channels when the decision was made.

MS was wanting to push everyone to Windows 10 and the decision was made to drop support for all legacy OS. Then a bunch of fortune 500 companies raised hell through their executive sponsors at MS and they all used Win 7. Microsoft extended Win 7 support as a result.

That's how big software works. Big software makes a call, big clients complain, big software makes concessions.

Not as much as the oil paycheck, but I'm not complaining.

Really Jed? Tell Rock* then.
MINIMUM:
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 7 - Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601)
Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 2GB / AMD

Otherwise they are falsely advertising. Course according to you, they have until January 2021 to update that. I'll be here on Windows 7. *sips tea*

its not false advertising, they did that cause the game released on PC ONLY 1 month before Windows 7 end of the line which was Jan 14th 2020

you had plenty of time to switch to 10

It's the principle of the update, people don't want to. It's not about time constraints.

It's up to you what you do, this thread is for those that care about security and support. If you do not, then fine, no skin off my nose.

You do realise, that even if their version of Win 7 isn't genuine, they can still go through the exact same upgrade procedure and end with a legit Windows 10 right?

I've been in the IT game a bit longer than 30 yrs, and honestly, MS kind of shot themselves in the foot with the way windows 10 was released. But for those that do want to buy windows 10 license, which is the right way to do it, you can get cheap legit licenses for as little as $30 or less, note that this would only be necessary for new builds or those wanting a legit license if they are currently running a pirated version already and are tired of needing to constantly reapply cracks after every update.

Think a lot of people didn't move to Windows 10 because, well, at first it was absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but so was XP when it first launched. Now, I love Win 10, and the BS about "oh it spies on you" is just that complete BS, you can turn off what you share with MS.
