I even did write a ticket to developers and they told me "there is no free horse to collect" even though I sent a screenshot lol
Although i think Arabians are way too small (like My Little Pony small) - and they are Very Skittish for my taste - one wolf or cougar gets to close, and i'm on my but - "oh no - what's that ?? a Snake ??? Eeek !".
My American Painted not only kept me on for the first pass by a wolf, but when it finally bucked me, my horse then body slammed the wolf off a cliff - Priceless !!!
So, "Best Horse" is clearly subjective, and your title is "better than reference", and i definitely want to check it out. For my preference, give me a Work Horse or War Horse ftw.
Another story:
3 wolves jumped in me Cumberland Forest - i pulled out my rifle and nailed one on approach while the other 2 surrounded me - my Andalusian kept me mounted while i pulled away and then finished off the other two. (My Dark Bay Andalusian was taken from a Bounty Hunter in Chapter 2 - and it's blood red coat is awesome).
You're talking about the Black Chestnut Thoroughbred. I'm like 99% sure I claimed him through the handheld catalog with a price of 0.00$. Amazing horse, but still slams its' head into trees.
It seems bravery is a random stat. To the guy above, I'll not argue either, but I'd say Google is your friend.
Hmm... your suggestion implies i could be biasing my observation testing with pre-conceived expectations. Interesting... But the Arabian and American Standard are so, umm... not calm, that i notice it now just when riding them around. They certainly seem different.
The Warp Brindle is the Arabian i keep - since the game constantly adjusts your horse to match the current mission, the benefit of a faster horse becomes frustratingly useless.
p.s. and i have googled it quite a bit... must be reading the wrong articles
cheers.

Nobody can measure an objective difference between horses, which tends to mean that bravery simply doesn't exist as a stat. That's why you can't find any consistent information on it. People only have purely subjective, anecdotal opinions. It's also why the community spreads the nonsensical "bravery is decided upon purchase!" crap."
Of course, the statement has a flaw - it concludes that bravery doesn't exist becuz "Nobody can measure an objective difference between horses" - but i'll let that slide. the part about anecdotal-only is awesome.
However, reading through all the articles again with a more open mind, i better noticed the "bravery doesn't exist" statements from the silent majority.
It's always remarkable how the loud (squeaky) minority can affect the general public opinion.
In the end, it is best to say bravery doesn't exist, until someone can figure out how to test for it. ;)
Thank you for the education.
Spirit and surefoot should have been stats, would have made horses in this game a masterpiece.
As it stands though horses in this title have more "character" than any game I own with riding in them simply because you have to bond, feed and care for them and they move much better and have minds of their own at times.
It would have also been interesting with bonding if sometimes you find a horse that for whatever reason just doesn't like you lol, making bonding more work.
