Confused about Auto-save and Manual-save
According to what I've read, you can't manual save during a mission only in between missions. I'm in between missions and I'm using manual save. However every time an auto save comes due a message will pop up. It pretty much implies that the auto save will over write one of my manual saves and do I agree, yes or no. If I say no it will say that auto save will be turned off. I don't understand why it wants to over write my saves when there are lots of empty slots left.
I'm just in between Missions 1 and 2, so there is a lot I don't understand about this game yet.

The auto save pop-up asks permission to overwrite your previous auto save, as there's only one auto save slot, it doesn't touch your manual saves.

This pop-up comes up once at the start of every session unless you turn off auto save altogether.

Thanks that explains a lot. So even though I do a manual save just before I quit, the game itself does an auto save too. So is it normal for me to get that message about over writing my manual save. I guess this is the first game I've played where you aren't allowed to give your save a name. All of the saves say the same thing and gives a percentage of the game played. So if you are looking to go back to play some part again you will just have to guess and hope you pick the right one.

Yeah, the message about wanting to overwrite your save only affects your autosave. Unlike some other games RDR2 only has one autosave slot by default, which is why that pop-up can get a little excessive if you reboot the game or (re)load saves often as it automatically asks for permission everytime. Once that permission is given it will automatically continue to overwrite the autosave slot during that specific session without bothering you further.

This game autosaves before and after story missions, but also after specific actions such as equipping a bandana in free-roam or changing your outfit by accessing your horse's cargo. The latter two being mechanics you'll unlock later on, along with a bunch of other stuff. You can freely fill up all of your manual save slots, the game itself automatically handles the autosave one. If you delete your current autosave it'll generate a new one if you have autosaving enabled and so forth.

It's indeed pretty confusing to keep track of your manual saves! Their titles will automatically change to the name of the last mission you completed before saving. I've played on multiple manual saves in the past, keeping them separate, which means your only clues as to which manual save is the ''right'' one, or the one you want, are its name, percentage and time + date. You'll get used to it eventually and remember which one is which.

Thanks for taking the time to explain all of that to me, I appreciate it.

No problem! The autosave overwrite pop-up was confusing to me as well when I first started playing. This game has a ton of mechanics to get used to in the beginning and keep track of altogether, but you'll get the hang of it. Feel free to ask away if you've got any more questions. I'm always happy to help.

Thanks I'll remember that.
