Perfect pelts appearing in my Inventory?

So I had something interesting happen and I wonder if others have had this happen to them.
I logged in to the game, to my camp and donated all that I had to Cripps. Because of of the daily that says dont kill any animals for 18 hours ingame, I rode around gathering samples, doing bounties and all was well.
I should note that for this duration, I was in the lobby by myself (Ty RDR2 Gods). At some point a level 238 player joined me, I ran into them in Valentine but they didnt bother me, just stood near me then disappeared. I started another bounty and went on my way. The 18hr daily was completed, so I hunted some deer for the other dailies. The level 238 found me again, stood near me, followed me a bit but I kept on my way again to my camp.
I was aware of what I had killed during my time in this lobby. When I got to my camp and Cripps, I noticed 2 perfect badger pelts and a perfect raccoon pelt amongst my poor quality pelts and carcasses. At no point did I hunt any badger, any raccoon and at no point did I hunt any perfect small animals. I was too busy trying to avoid running over animals for most of my time in that lobby. I was too suspicious so I discarded those perfect pelts and left the lobby.

Apologies for the long post, I wanted to go into as much detail as possible as to what my activities were in that particular lobby.
So, my question is as the title says. Has anyone had any random perfect pelts appear into their inventories and could it be yet another ability of a scriptkiddie/modder/hacker? (whatever your preferred term for them.)

You can loot those pelts, especially from poacher NPCs

they're really not worth very much material or money

I haven't though no I haven't heard of that sort of inventory manipulation in RDR2 either, just spawned animals and carcasses near your character

I didn't run into any poacher NPCs, the only NPCs I had looted from were those that guard bounties at hideouts. But good to know pelts can be looted from NPCs, never had it happen before and knowing that this game can be manipulated so easily, one can never be too careful.

I've seen it. I doubt it's a hack. Maybe a bug or you got it in the mail. Or loot, but I doubt that too because I also had badger and raccoon.

Skinner Brothers gang npcs drop pelts and herbs. Probably are playing around an area that gang spawns hideouts and ambushes.

I had a slightly different experience of getting a couple of good pelts but when i turned them into cripps they were perfect pelts,certainly not complaining.
