Possible to get up to 60 FPS? (SOLVED)
Originally I played RDR 2 on the Xbox One and beat it, excellent game it ran well, not a lot of problems were thrown at me.

I decided to get it on PC recently since I sold my Xbox and after getting into the game again. The game seems to be capped on 30 FPS. It's still playable but it's just something I'm not used to. I looked at best graphical options for my GPU (1070) and they seem to get their game up to 60 FPS, while I do the same and I'm still capped on 30 FPS. Is this game not supposed to be at 60 FPS or is my PC bottlenecked?

Specs:

AMD A8-7650K

16 GB of RAM

Asus GTX 1070

you could try disabling integrated graphics, but still.

Agreed, and its probably also holding back the GPU.

Passmark results show it as pretty limited

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A8-7650K&id=2489

Upgrading to even an entry level Ryzen should show a great improvement though.

EDIT:
Just checked the screenshots with the MSI overlay, the GPU is sat at 28% utilisation, so its being completely bottlenecked by the CPU right now for the other potential 72% available performance.

I knew that was gonna be the problem.

Do you know what Intel CPU is reccomended? I plan to get a new PC before the end of the year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Recommended Requirements
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X.
RAM: 12 GB.
VIDEO CARD: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB.
FREE DISK SPACE: 150 GB.
DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 3072 MB.

The new Ryzen CPU's are being announced in October I believe, might be worth waiting to see the price/performance of these. If you plan on keeping your 1070 for a while AMD might be the way to go, Intel benchmark better in games at the higher end, but AMD are usually better value for money at the mid-range. I'm really happy with my Ryzen 3700x and 1080Ti right now.

I'm currently debating between getting another AMD or a new Intel. Just dunno what brand.

Any new 10th gen intel or zen 2 ryzen will do just fine. I went with AMD because i feel like they have the better chip, better power consumption, better upgrade path, newer tech with pcie 4.0. but intel is just as good if not better at lower resolution highest refresh rate gaming. That's the only slight edge they have though. And that's because they are clocked higher and use more power. Plus they cost more, so idk I went with AMD because of the high value.
You'd totally be fine with either company to be honest. Just whatever you prefer really.

Either an I5 or some better AMD CPU, not sure yet.

Have you tried updating the video card drivers and playing with the nvidia control panel ?

Yep, changed nothing.

I have seen people complaining about the game being lock on 30 fps when the widescreen option was selected. Have you also played with that ?

P.S. Without knowing your resolution your card and specs mean absolutely nothing.
