RDR2 Vs. Special Edition Vs. Ultimate Edition
I was always under the impression that Ultimate Edition was the "Full" game and the other two were just cut content from day one release.

Can anyone clear this up?

Theres no DLC per se, so the base RDR2 purchase gets you the full game that has Solo-Play (called "Story" mode) and the Online mode.

The other 2 "editions" add some small amount of content and some freebies to Story Mode and/or On-line mode.

Here are the details of the others directly from the Steam Page:

"The Red Dead Redemption 2 Special Edition delivers exclusive content for Story Mode including a Bank Robbery Mission & Gang Hideout, Dappled Black Thoroughbred, Talisman & Medallion Gameplay Bonuses, Gameplay Boosts, Cash Bonuses & Discounts, and the Nuevo Paraiso Gunslinger Outfit, plus free access to Additional Weapons."

"The Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition delivers all of the Story Mode content from the Special Edition plus additional content for online including Bonus Outfits for your online Character, Rank Bonuses, Black Chestnut Thoroughbred and free access to the Survivor Camp Theme."

When the game came out it was $100 for Ultimate. I realize that some of the things listed in these editions are just perks. However the description makes it sound like parts of the game are locked behind the "pay wall" of the Special and Ultimate. Like you would be getting a watered down version for $60.

So. I walked away from the game and never looked back. But now the "Ultimate" version is $60, so... I came back to take a look.

I bought ultimate at Greenmangaming, since standard was 41 EUR and ultimate was ~47EUR and I guess it was worth those 6euros, but not much more than that. I think the only thing that you could call cut content is that bank heist. Ultimate without discount is a massive ripoff.

The ultimate edition only has some extra bonuses for the online mode. So, really not worth it.

If you want the "full" game, then you need to buy the Special Edition. The Bank Robbery mission was intentionally cut out from the main game to incentivize people to buy the costlier edition.

If you've played the game, then you'll have noticed that the gang tends to rob every bank, except just 1 bank. There no reason given as to why they didn't rob that bank. So yeah, you guessed it, that 1 bank mission was cut out and sold as "dlc" in the costlier special edition only.

Just so you know, this "extra" Bank Robbery mission is like a really short 5-10 min mission at most, with such low payouts that its kinda worthless.

And we've been playing for the past 2 years - so right back at'cha - lol
the only thing that sucks is if you want the extra stuff later, you can't buy it separately. If there is a slim possibility you might want that extra content, buy the ultimate. There are times I wish I did.

Thirty quid in the UK for the whole shebang. Best thirty quids gaming I ever spent.

thanks for clearing that up. I couldn’t figure out if I needed the ultimate edition or not. I already have the special edition and since I don’t care about online I guess I’m set.

I'd like to get the triple x version. (adult version)

I bet R* has one, just for in house use only...

You know they do. I would...

So, here on Steam, there's the Red Dead Redemption 2 and the Ultimate Edition. The exclusive story mode content is only on Ultimate Edition? Like, I'm forced to buy that if I wanted those story mode content despite not wanting all the online stuff?

I would just buy the normal version, because the perks that come with the other editions are basically just cheats, free guns, free powerful horse, free money, cheap stuff. There are a couple missions, but they aren't significant and just another way to get easy money.
