Temp RDR2 7/28 crashing FIX /down patching guide.

So Ser Pounce a Lot (https://steamcommunity.com/id/fus-roh-da) on Steam posted on this thread (https://steamcommunity.com/app/1174180/discussions/0/2785991200452218401/?ctp=12) on how to force a rollback of RDR2 to a working state. I've been crashing since 7/28 and I finally got to see my beautiful boah again!

Here's the instructions (I added some things but all credit goes to him:

Downgrade the game to 1.0.1232.62 and the Problem is GONE (at least for me no crash in an hour) time R* acknowledges this bug already!

0. You need .NET Core Runtime : https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download

1. Get DepotDownloader: [here](https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases/tag/DepotDownloader_2.3.6) and extract it into any folder (i named it DepotDownloader).

2. Open a command line (not powershell, just cmd) and write (no quotes) "cd *folder depot Downloader files was extracted to*" so for instance if you have it in downloads and in a folder you have called DepotDownloader. You'd write "cd Downloads\DepotDownloader" or just do cd downloads hit enter then cd DepotDownloader and hit enter

3. (Copy and paste with no quotes and fill in your steam sign in user and password in the steam user and steam pass sections) "depotdownloader.bat -app 1174180 -depot 1174184 -manifest 927270803708030361 -username STEAMUSER -password STEAMPASS -validate"

4. It may ask for a verication code sent to your email so put that in

5. Wait until downloads are FINISHED (this can take awhile like 10-30min)

6. Run rdr2 normally until crash

7. Put Steam in offline mode

8. Copy the files you downloaded with DepotDownloader that are now in the Depotdownloader>depot>numbers>more numbers folder into your Red Dead Redemption 2 folder and also the files in the DepotDownload folder in that numbers folder in RDR2.

9. If you get the ACTIVATION Error what you have to do is verify the files, run RDR2 until it crashes, put steam in offline mode and recopy the depot files to rdr2. So if you ever go back online with steam you may have to verify your files and after recopy the downpatch bc rockstar garbage launcher will say you need to authenticate again.

10. I suggest doing is to copy the files in rdr2 folder that are the same as the depot folder into a seperate folder before overwriting them so if you have the activation error again you can just copy the update version files and run RDR2 instead of waiting for steam to verify


This also shows how greedy and disgusting rockstar is. They could do this themselves but they're afraid about hurting RDO revenue so they'd rather keep the game broken for customers who already paid as to not ruin it from the ones they're syphoning money out of. They're pretending this isn't an option.

im still getting authentication error, even after verifying files , running until crash, going into offline mode copying the files from the numbers folder/more numbers folder depot downloader then launching.. i know it worked because my game reverts to the previous build and is no longer playing on build 1311.12 . Still authentication error ive tried multiple times and still not working ?

Rollback is not a FIX

Its a work arround. You are just playing with older game files when everything still worked.

In other words Rockstar messed up. The Latest versions crashes on many PCs.

and this fix is only for the peeps that play the single player, you go online you get version missmatch btw.

Doesn't solve it for those using just R* launcher. I wish I could refund...

You're most likely missing files from the depot, did it fully download and did you include the files in "DepotDownload" folder in the folder with the files?

Where did you extract the depot Downloader install files into? That's where you should be moving it to not "DepotDownloader"

I believe so... The files i added are as follow. I also showed the location of where i got them from after running cmd in depotdownloader

Then >depotdownloader-2.3.6>depots>1174184>5314406>.DepotDownloader: Staging folder,1174184_927270803708030361.bin,1174184_927270803708030361.bin.sha.

These are the 9 files i moved into the RDR2 directory. The download said 100% complete so im assuming it had finished ? Are these the correct files ?
