About making friends
So I've been playing Read Dead online, and it has been quite lonely. I'm not really used to playing any online game, so I got no idea how I'm supposed to actually meet people. I don't want to stalk random people. Any tip on where and how one could find some people to play on occasions ?

Use your microphone, that's what I do in game, say hello to 10 people, 2 might say hello back. You will get a few that will dance, wave, etc.

Sometimes people ask about joining a posse on here, you could respond to them here.

And, yes, it's sometimes a lonely game... but busy too.

Others will come along and respond to this post soon enough, with more ideas.

yes, the most difficult part in connceting with people is because there is no text chat which can make the step smaller.

I understand that a lot of (especially new) players with almost no online gaming experience with voice chat can feel a bit mic-shy.

but what Jed above me said is actually pretty good advice which I also will follow up.

I usually just wave, dance, or randomly help out or drop a perfect carcas in front of them, but just saying hello trough the mic is maybe even better, even though the other person don't own or use the mic, they can still hear you.

And thus making the step for such players also smaller and before you know it...

We all start making topics about people not willing to shut up in game and everyone is always yapping XD

Start your own open posse. Eventually people will join, some only for a short while, others perhaps longer. Send the players you like a friend request.

I'll gladly join your posse.
Always good to be alone together hehe

You're right about the mic especially if you're already shy irl. I played once in a group but feels like they didn't even talk together. But I'll keep trying

What I do is try to think up weird/interesting RP situations to draw people in. This might not be for everyone, as like 99% people don't care about RP, some people just wanna grind, etc. but those few times you actually get someone to interact with you, it's usually worth it.

One time I just walked around Armadillo for an hour, hammering townsfolk to death and acting/speaking like a deranged vessel of god who was there to cleanse the land. Someone else joined in, and we had around a solid hour of RP, murdering townsfolk, dragging them into mass graves, and burning the bodies.

Another time, a friend and I blocked off one of the bridges leading out of Saint Denis with a bunch of carriages, and lined up the bodies to scare people off. A few people interacted with us, most people rode around the bridge, but it was still fun to set up.

Yesterday, I just lurked around Harriet's tent with a dismembered corpse, and whenever someone would ride up to her, I'd just walk up to her tent and be like, "You see, Harriet? I'm no longer murdering ANIMALS, are you proud of me?!" in a very creepy voice and dump the body right in front of other players.
Got no takers, but hopefully I freaked at least ONE person out.

During an event where we had to protect a legendary gator from poachers, I talked about how a gator had tried to bite my willy off, and when I told Harriet the story, she laughed and said that no self-respecting gator would eat such a small meal. It got a few chuckles and started a brief conversation.

The best situation, by far, was one I stumbled onto. I was in Saint Denis, and there was a group of about 10 people having a fight club! The chances of finding something like that is akin to winning the lottery, but it was a TON of fun. Made 3 friends that day!

But yeah, I find that just by using my mic more often than not when I see people in the area, and tailoring my dialogue to whatever I'm doing, situations can be created that will lead to interactions, and possibly even friendships! It's very hit and miss, but still fun, and a nice break from a lot of the monotony.

You do know that you sound crazy right?

there's no reason to interact with people in the game, you don't gain anything you just waste time where you could be killing deer or farming moonshine.

Too much alone time does that, in this game, I think! When I first started playing I hung around up in the Grizzlies, keeping away from people... then, after a long while, I started going into towns just to see folk. Some fun, yes. LOL!

PS: Your right, he does sound crzy nutz, but... he makes sense too. Seen three people having a good ol pinch up, just outside of Valentine... sat and watched for a while, madness!

For an online world, communication in this game is dreadful. :/
