Stuttering and 100% disk usage, help wanted
Specs: CPU - i7-3770
GPU - GeForce GTX 1060 6gb
RAM - 11.96 gb
PSU - SeaSonic S12II Series S12II 620 Bronze (SS-620GB) 620W Intel ATX 12 V 80 PLUS BRONZE
Windows 10
The game runs well most of the time, but whenever I'm in combat, especially online pvp, the game shoots up to 100% disk usage and starts to stutter, not constantly, but mostly when I shoot or get shot and explosions. I'm using the settings recommended by that guide for the 1080, any suggestions for settings I can lower to help fix the stuttering?
I'm using the settings suggested in this guide, except I'm using dx12 instead of vulkan

Could be related to the drive you are running it from.

I didn't really notice a difference between vulkan or dx12, just figured dx12 made more sense. I just lowered texture quality to high from ultra and that seems to be working fine so far. It's not the fps I'm having issues with, it's the disk usage.

Try turning it to the lowest settings and see what happens, if the disk usage issue is happening anywhere else its probably your pc still loading or downloading something or a issue with your motherboard

Have you done any testing of the HDD/SSD? It looks like it can't keep up? Start with cleaning junk/error checking and defrag it.

Didn't find any errors, I'll try defragging, haven't done that in awhile.
Monitor ram usage. You could be going over the 16Gb budget. I'm always past 16Gb just by starting this game. I'm using 16Gb just looking at the main menu. This is why I installed 32Gb ram into my laptop. I was tired of using all of my ram.

16 should be fine, but you never know. That's why you run metrics to see.

+edit+
Sorry I made a mistake. You have 12Gb. probably not running in dual-channel and you could still be maxing out your budget.

12Gb ram isn't the optimal configuration. You want 8Gb, 16Gb, 32Gb, 64Gb, 128Gb.. you want that type of setup. That way you have matching dimms for the best performance. This is of course dependent on your cpu memory controller.

If you have a dual-channel memory controller then you want dual-channel ram. Triple-channel memory controller get's 12Gb, 24Gb, 48Gb.. like that. And then there's quad-channel.

most people have dual-channel though. The 3770 is going to be dual-channel. So you want8Gb, 16Gb, 32Gb.. so forth.

I don't know the first thing about upgrading ram, any advice?
I'm running an old xeon that's similar to your 3770 and I'm using Patriot viper series 2x8Gb ddr3

Specs: https://valid.x86.fr/wh0q4l

it get's 60fps in this game and in Rage 2.

And look ^^^^^ I'm past 16Gb ram already. but it's running in dual-channel so it's fast. no disk usage.

Check you pagefile.

For me, game only uses 10/11gigs of overall 16gigs of memory. Im willing to bet, if I remove 1 stick, so having 8gigs, I'll be still able to run the game just fine.

EDIT: removed 1 random stick of ram. I didn't even bother changing anything, slots, XMP, nothing, not even page file. Guess what? Game runs the same. I didn't put a lot of time in it, I just loaded a save game and ran it for a minute or two. No difference.

Ram usage is 7.9gigs (with OS taking some as well).

So are we talking about actual RAM sticks/hardware, or commited usage/page file? It's not the same.

I'm not running out of memory. Looking at my task manager, at the time of the stuttering, the disk shoots to 100%, memory hovers around 60-80% so it's not a memory problem, note I also have a second monitor on and several Microsoft Edge windows open. If I need to look at more, let me know.
Daemia Aug 12, 2020 @ 1:05pm
I never said it was a memory problem, not in terms of hardware/not having enough/dual/triple whatever chanel. Someone else did. It's not optimal, no. But it's not as nearly as bad as he presented it.

I'd defrag the drive (the one that has the game installed on and the one that has pagefile set), check the drive for errors (not just windows tool), and check how my pagefile is set. Also, task manager is not something you'd want to use for testing, if anything, avoid that.
