Is Steam always required for playing?
Hello!

I am thinking about buying RDR2 on Steam because I have enough balance here, but I have a little question.

If I buy it here on Steam, do I always have to start it here with my Steam Account or can I also start it alone in the Rockstar Games Launcher? Is it, like, linked with the Steam Account and forces me to use it through Steam or can it be launched alone with the Rockstar Launcher?

Thanks in Advance and I hope my english is understandable :D

If you buy the game on Steam, you run it thru Steam.

thanks for your answer!
so there is no way I can run it without Steam? I thought it would be like connected/registered with my Rockstar Account and that I could start it on their Launcher instead..

but if I can only start it with Steam then I don't know if I want to buy it here :/

You will always need to log into RockStar Social Club. It does it automatically if you have set it to remember you from Steam Library play.
You can play it from either Rockstar Game Launcher on your desktop or Steam play.
The desktop Launcher.exe will require you to pass the I'm not a robot and how many lights how many crosings etc.

Even if you launch the rockstar client seperately it will say 'play on steam'. It's just a matter of distribution. Whether you buy it here or there or on epic is not much of a difference anyway.

You can press play and start it through their launcher but steam must be running as well, otherwise it will launch steam for you and then start the game.

so, if I understand right, I can buy it on Steam and install it, then open it once here and have it connected to Rockstar and then I am able to just launch it without Steam with the Rockstar Launcher on my Desktop? :)

I think not is possible because on rockstar says "play on steam" button if you buying on steam.

Why annoying? You own almost 200 games already?

Or do you just want to run the game by clicking on desktop icon? I don't think any of the launchers will run the game directly, without them runing in the background and loging in. As far as I know, only GOG games do that (no DRM).

I would prefer to just open and play it without having Steam running in the background but if thats not possible then I just accept that :D

I remember games from Ubisoft with the Uplay Launcher which were bought from steam dont require steam to be active thats why I thought it would be the same with RDR2 :)

Ah ok. I also own a few games on Uplay, but I never tried runing them directly. I don't think it will work like that in this case, but ofc, give it a try (I did just now, but I cannot remember my R* login, runing thru Steam logs in automaticly, so meh).

Sadly I think all Ubisoft games bought thru Steam require steam running to play the ubi game now.
