Apparently, an i7 9700k & gtx 1080ti "doesn't meet minimum sys requirements"
So I've been having this crash issue same as many of you. Get to the main menu fine, but selecting anything on it leads to a silent Crash To Desktop.

I've tried everything everyone has suggested in the posts here and elsewhere, went as far as grabbing a completely unused SSD, never before been in a system, installed Win10 from a fresh ISO from microsoft on it, installed drivers etc, and the game, and the exact. same. issue. persists.

If I boot up my PC into Linux, the game runs just fine, and is totally playable, with the exception of online, as proton/wine can't connect to R* services for some reason, but that tells me 100% this is not a hardware issue.

My specs are as follows:

CPU: Intel i7 9700k
GPU: Asus GTX 1080Ti
16GB System RAM, 500gb SSD storage

This is the response I got from Rockstar support about the issue:

Apparently, my PC, while not exactly top of the line, somehow, does not meet the RDR2 minimum system requirements, according to them, even though it tramples all over the minim specs they sent me in the reply to me giving them a list of my specs.

I almost feel like R* support responses about this issue are just a new meme.

You said the game runs fine on linux? So apparently you fullfill the minimus sys requirements :D
Problem is your nvidia driver. Theres an problem right now.

I was using a 442.50 until yesterday, kinda dodged a lot a problems apparently. My game is running fine.

I'll try downgrading the driver to 442.50 then. Proton/WINE do handle certain winapi calls quite differently than windows, even to the extend of making programs less susceptible to crashes, because it ignores certain errors, or passes certain constant responses to the program for stub calls.

The point was more that the hardware isn't the issue, and since a fresh install of windows with the latest nvidia driver still didn't work, that ruled out both hardware and the OS enviornment.

But I will give downgrading the driver a try, it's about the only thing I haven't tried.

I run the game fine on a 1070 ti, so it's not your system.

The graphics settings are VERY touchy - you can cause All Sorts of Problems by making incompatible settings. (which is what causes most complaints of instability)

Use GeForce Experience Optimization, and only adjust the basic graphics settings yourself.

I get 52FPS with Ultra Textures and smooth gameplay.
Your system should be stomping the living crap out of this game! WTH is going on? I wish I could help everyone.
I have it running flawlessly 60fps on a PC that's over 10 years old.
Specs: https://valid.x86.fr/wh0q4l

And your 9700k beats my 3700x by a tiny bit and it runs 60fps on there also.

This is so odd. Let's see, new windows update introduced a new option in Windows graphic settings. It's called "Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling". It's in Windows settings though, not GPU control panel. Anyways, I have to keep this option off on all of my PCs. Also try it without "Game Mode".

Another thing you can try is to reinitialize your graphic settings. You do this by removing the "Settings" file in your Documents folder> Rockstar Games> Red Dead Redemption 2. Launch the game and let it set your graphics. Then quit and open GeForce experience to optimize.

Tier 2 doesn't know what they are doing. It's that clear.
