ok this is becoming problematic
be me, doing a supply mission. Crips sends me to a train that is miles away, my horse is fast tho, so i catch up rather easily, i even get on the train rather easily. i dispatch the people guarding the supplies, ok, here is where the trouble starts. the train has been moving for some time now, so i race to the front to apply the brake, get a wanted level for my efforts. i loot the dead, run back to where the supplies are. no problem i will just whistle for my horse. he doesnt show. i whistle again, he doesnt show. i whistle yet again. i wont bore you with repitition, i whistled like 40 times, in the meantime, the law has formed a posse and there are like ten guys bearing down on the train. my semi auto shotgun is completely out of ammo, i pick up the supplies. 40 more whistles, i am carrying the supplies on my shoulder. more whistling, no response from my 42 gold horse that i spent a huge amount of time and effort bonding with and getting what i think is the best saddle, the best stirrups, etc. so i am getting shot, the supply bag on my shoulder, i am plying the volcanic pistol like there is no such thing as running out of ammo. finally, i get sick of whistling, open the panel that gives access to my owned horses (still getting shot mind you) and choose my backup horse. i whistle, FINALLY! the horse shows up. eight dead guys later, and the supply bag is strapped over her white arabian butt. i mount up and race a very long distance back to the camp and make it with 3 minutes to spare. my hunting wagon doesnt show when i call it now, i got to go to the stables and make it an active vehicle. i really dont think this was on purpose, something is broken. up til now i have been evangelizing the hell out of this game, and i still love it, but honestly, now i got to tell my friends to shy away from it til it gets fixed. does anyone know how to fix it or if rockstar has seen the problems and is going to repair them soon? also if harriet maces me one more time i am going to hogtie her and introduce her to the most amorous alligator i can find in the swamp. seriously, its going to show her all its love back. and if it eats her face, thats the price of loving animals i guess....ARGH!!!!!!! fine, i wont, but she IS making me mad

Don't stop the train. Throw the supplies off and jump .

I would probably never buy a horse in online mode, unless I had a stockpile of cash that had nowhere else to be spent. At least cheaters can't take the moustache you bought... Or can they? I don't even want to know, and I likely won't be playing online for a very long time if it stays public mode.

Horses are just in general essential, and should be in this kind of game, personally I think they did it in bad ways, i.e. the importance of a horse was covering great distances with a decent amount of gear, losing a horse on a trip could easily mean death (or having a your horse stolen, which is why that was so often punishable by death). In RDR they just kind of force the horse on you when you don't really need one in the game world.

In online mode in the player on player fights or in missions, and getting to friends etc yes sure I agree, but I didn't say never get horses, I said I'd never be spending gold on them, and would rarely spend paper money on them either (aside from insurance).

It's neat to get a horse for each type of job you may be doing. That's what I enjoyed. A warhorse when I know there will be explosions or predators. Another horse for speed but gets scared of its own shadow, and the one from the deluxe for a nice balance.

isnt the horse supposed to be 10 seconds away at all times? isnt it supposed to come running when you whistle for it? did you read my post in its entirety or did you just glance at the first few letters? i dont see what i originally posted @Zero, did you miss cut and pasting? i am curious. the thing that i think is a problem is a mechanic within the game ie the horse coming when you whistle seems to be gone during certain events such as a supply run for the trader role. you shouldnt HAVE TO open the menu panel, or press L, all you should have to do is whistle, and the horse should move at least reasonably close. this thing didnt happen, hence my post. i really wish people would read the entire post instead of just knee jerk reacting to a few words they see rather than the full and complete message, because it twists my meaning and you try to make me look stupid by doing that. i want to be civil in my conversations with people, but its getting harder and harder, and the reason it is so hard to communicate without things turning into an argument?

It is your fault

Horses are bugged in online dozens of times horse doesn't come when whistled. Changing the active horse helps most of times. My wagon is even worse 95% of time it can't be called at all.

My horse comes, every time, my wagon comes, even time.

when is the last time you played rdr2 online Jed? i am curious, also, you are from the outback, they might have given you guys a patch that works, lol

i find that the most common reason for my horse not coming is that either it didnt despawn where i jumped off and is trying to reach you by riding into a cliffface for all eternity.. or it spawned in a location where its also unable to get to you
