Horses are just in general essential, and should be in this kind of game, personally I think they did it in bad ways, i.e. the importance of a horse was covering great distances with a decent amount of gear, losing a horse on a trip could easily mean death (or having a your horse stolen, which is why that was so often punishable by death). In RDR they just kind of force the horse on you when you don't really need one in the game world.
In online mode in the player on player fights or in missions, and getting to friends etc yes sure I agree, but I didn't say never get horses, I said I'd never be spending gold on them, and would rarely spend paper money on them either (aside from insurance).
It's neat to get a horse for each type of job you may be doing. That's what I enjoyed. A warhorse when I know there will be explosions or predators. Another horse for speed but gets scared of its own shadow, and the one from the deluxe for a nice balance.
It is your fault
