RDR Roleplay servers, are they worth it?
I have this game on PS4, and as a western fan the online was mostly disappointing by its own, so when they announced it for PC that was when my illusion to play it as a cowboy really began

But I don't see half the hype GTA RP has, so my question is, is RDR RP worth buying the game? Enough people and enough servers? Good community and all?

Ignore pretty much everything that's been said. People don't know what they are talking about.

Roleplay in Red Dead Online (the normal game) is pretty non-existent because there is no text chat function. It's voice and emote only and there's no real way of avoiding griefers.

RedM is an unofficial and unsupported mod that has been developed by a small communtiy to create a private Roleplay server. It is not considered illegal since RedM doesn't interact with the Rockstar servers in any way. Basically it gives admins the possibility to use tools to add items, content etc to enrichen the world (add more banks to rob etc).

However there are still some issues which are due to how Rockstar designed the game:: the server is very small due to the player limit, and the P2P networking means it is quite unstable. It also depends on inter-operability with Rockstar updates - for example sometimes the API gets broken. There is also still no real text chat so RP is limited to voice-only.

Long story short: RedM is a labour of love but might not scratch the RP itch you are hoping for.

My advice would be not to buy the game "just to RP" but because its a good game where RP *might* be possible with a small community.

Noxsa, FiveM F.A.Q. link says this:

Will I get banned from GTA:O for playing FiveM?

Nope! FiveM does not interact with the Rockstar Online Services other than to validate your game copy the first time you launch it. This validation emulates the game's interaction, and can not be detected by Rockstar.
It also doesn't modify your game files at all, even when downloading server assets, so you don't have to do anything to move between FiveM or GTA:O.

Back in 2015, Rockstar tried to ban and dissolve FiveM servers. Don't know if the thing went to courts or not. Thing is everyone (famous streamers and youtubers included) play in their servers. Obviously if you contact R* and ask them, they'll say it's a No-NO because third party use is not allowed but truth is today you can play freely. I don't like FiveM, as an old school table RPG player, i find what they call "roleplay" a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥, a false RP, but hey if the boys want a little dope, let' em have their dope, man.

lol one sec google search and oh look and behold what the RedM posted (this is a qoute from them)

The channel’s posted: “RedM currently won’t work for new players as Rockstar removed an API service we require to verify you own a legitimate copy of RDR2 on PC.” The post says that, because the creator can’t remove this verification check for legal reasons, and Rockstar has reportedly not yet provided an “alternative API, new players therefore can’t play RedM”.

pay attention to what they say here "because the creator can’t remove this verification check for legal reasons" i wonder why.
so its not "illegal", the devs took away the API, whats actually illegal is running the mod without the API to allow pirated copies of the game to run in the mod.
like i said, stop spreading misinformation.

djeezes christ man, why did you think R* took away that API, so they want to force RedM in doing it ilegal so they can take actions and close redm down. what use is to redm when they can't get new players (its fantastic for R* they won't lose more players to redm, probably why they took away the api)
use your brain, and stop eating with others shove into you with out thinking for your self.
like i said don't take my word for it, ask R*

FiveM and RedM are not illegal, you mouth breather. They're completely separate installs the games, not related at all to the official version. It's a mod. Do you really think they'd still be in operation after so many years with so much exposure on the internet if it weren't legal? If it were direct competition with Rockstar and somehow against the law, then why didn't Rockstar or Take2 do anything about it? Why would they just let it continue? I can't believe this needs to be explained. You tell people to use their brain but you're the one who needs to do so.

seriously, where do you guys get this idea. just read the copyright rules this game has. if redm does not change the game in anyway like they say they don't then how does it connect to redm server? eh, that's right the changed the game somehow "not a modder" that's what mods does! oh and before you all go ape again R* does not support mods but tolerates them somewhat.
the reason why R* did not take down RedM or the fivem is because they don't care.. this said all that does not make it legal to do so. and one day "when R* cares" you lot may sing a very differend tune.

PS: and i know RedM does not connect to official servers! that's not the point here stop bringing that up! the point here is RDR2 gets alterd to connect to other "none" official server and that in its own is ilegal. no matter the fact that RedM does this for ages now. and seeing R* took out the API redm was using to check some things shows that R* may finally starting to do something about this and maybe soon RedM and fiveM will be gone.

i'm now i'm really done here, its clear you guys really like to fool your selfs either to give your self a false sens of security or to not get gult for playing and doing something ilegal who knows. its hard to win an argument from fanboiys. so i'll slip out of this thread now and wish you lot the best of luck.

RedM does not work anymore for new people since R has changed their API and they wont cooperate with RedM Team so people that got RedM before the change can play it, others cant.

I remember having to jump thru a few verification hoops when joining a guild in Diablo 1, and also Eve University for EVE online.

Sad I didn't know about this earlier as having access to something to bypass the public cesspool would have been nice had I chosen to play online at some point....

They are referring to RedM special dedicated RP servers

look, i do know what i'm talking about, RedM is illigal as far as i know "did not do research but i don't see R* release that version" [/quote]
how the tables turned

a bird told me, R* bought RedM or FiveM what ever ist called again, so they now have stakes in that too, they don't care about taking down RP servers, in fact they invested in them and probably now get a return in that too. win win probably.

ofc if the bird that told me lie'd, i em, so don't rage at me. but makes really good sens why R* did not take down the many RP servers out there.
