It is a glorious left-handed Mongolian ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, if you're into that sort of thing.
Ideally, of course, you'd kill the person currently in the target area so that no opponent is then racking up points, and then enter the area yourself. However, everyone else is trying to get to that area too, and you usually can't kill the person in the scoring area until you're close. Some of the players are going to try to get to the player currently scoring and ignore everyone else, but since any other player could kill you while you're trying to get there, and you don't want any other players to get into the scoring area, it's very common for players to kill each other the whole way along. This often has the negative side effect of leaving the player currently scoring within the target area for longer, racking up that many more points, and it _is_ a reason why plenty of people don't like the event, but in general, you're probably not going to even make it to the train let alone the target area if you don't kill other players along the way.
Really, the only way to avoid the problem would be if the players chasing the train acted as a team, but they have no incentive to do so, and in my experience, actually having a posse according in a coordinated manner in the event actually makes it that much more miserable, because inevitably, they take control of the train and then kill anyone getting close, and the person scoring doesn't even have to defend themselves. At least with everyone fighting for themselves, everyone has a chance. Plenty of people don't like the event though, and there are plenty of other PvP free roam events or showdowns for anyone who doesn't like Railroad Baron but still wants to do PvP.
Yeah, that's my point. I tried to do the whole "focus on the objective" thing and I always get shot in the back. And in all my games it was 2-3 people on the train sniping anyone who managed to survive the respawn free-for-all massacre.
How is this response relevant to the conversation? I am expressing my experience with the mode specifically. It wasn’t fun to chase after a train to get shot at from behind every 20 seconds. I can’t imagine all the game modes are this frustrating. I really appreciate your helpful response though!
That's unfortunate
