Maintaining guns with gamepad

The gamepad prompts claim that pressing the Right Stick while your gun is highlighted will allow you to maintain it, but every time I do it the game just goes into hunting mode. Can this be fixed?

Make sure you are not holding down both LB and LT when in the weapon wheel. Just LB. Turning on my dead eye when going to clean my guns is something I do embarrassingly often.

Only using the bumper, still only goes onto tracking mode

Hold Bumper, Move stick to weapon and hold, Click stick in, press the clean weapon button.

it doesn’t work, there’s no prompt for the weapon
cleaning, he doesn’t even look at the gun like he’s supposed to, all I hear is the faint “poof” of going in and out of tracking vision.
