Disabling Skidding on horses? (Massive stamina drain)
Question as title - Is there any way to disable this? I keep reading that you should tap CTRL instead to break like before the bond reaches level 3, but I just can't seem to get this working at all.

shift+ctrl = skid

Uh... yes? Not sure how that helps me here. I want to NOT skid.

I know this is not a direct answer to your question. I apologize if asinine.

But...

The Nacogdoches with Hooded Stirrups makes stamina drain a complete non issue. Use comfort horse on cooldown and stamina will never fall below ~85%. Using anything (other than horse care package at the stables) to gold tier buff your horse's stamina core will bug out the stamina drain and cause it to drain rapidly when using this saddle.

Assuming you have 'shift' to go faster and hold it down, then pressing 'ctrl' will cause you to skid.

Let go of shift, and just push control to slow down. Just don't press sprint at the same time as you brake and you won't skid.

It helps you, because it's user error, stop sprinting when trying to slow down.

So uh... yeah... That doesn't work here. I never hold down shift while braking (not sure how anyone would do this anyhow, given how incredibly uncomfortable it would be to hold both Shift and CTRL while using WASD)

But I also can't wait several seconds for the "post shift" speed to slow down enough to CTRL not doing a skid regardless.

Scenario.

I hold Shift to get up to and keep speed, let go for a bit, then hit CTRL. Still skid.

Right - Tapping doesn't really work. Unless you're expecting me to tap it at the speed of light, because no matter how fast I tap, it doesn't stop remotely as fast as pre-skid unlock CTRL holding.

In order to break on the keyboard there are two commands. 1; Tap CTRL and 2; Hold CTRL after the tap. You must do both commands. You will now break without sliding and can do so while holding or not holding the sprint key. Your choice.

what setting do you have here?

I give up.

Tapping CTRL doesn't brake the horse in any meaningful sense while riding fast. Holding CTRL will give me a fast break - and actively punish me for doing so by eating up half of the horses stamina immediately, if skidding has been unlocked.

Simple "drag race" test along the Braithwathe avenue.

Get horse up to speed with Shift, let go of shift, tap CTRL. Very, VERY slow braking. Not useful in any immediate sense.

Get horse up to speed with Shift, left go to shift, HOLD CTRL. Very fast brake. Doesn't cost stamina unless Skidding is unlocked through Bonding.

So in conclusion. Sell my horse once it gets the Skid ability. Every time. Lovely game design. Right up there with the game constantly resetting what guns you have.

At level 4 bonding you must TAP CTRL and then immediately HOLD CTRL to break without sliding/skidding. You are not doing that. You are either just tapping CTRL and then doing nothing (this is why you don't stop at all) or holding CTRL without tapping it first (this is why you slide/skid). I added you to help you in game if need be but you rejected my friend request.

Using the commands I am giving you will make your horse act the way you want it to.

Just tried this, it works mostly, maybe due to lag, user error, fat fingers etc
Some testing and i'm unable to get the horse to skid unless it's galloping [full speed].
So for OP, use ctrl to slow from gallop, then hold ctrl for slow stop.

If you are having troubles you can always double tap CTRL instead of single tap to play it safe. Double tapping is probably better but it takes some getting used to. Just make sure to let the CTRL key fully retract otherwise the game may think you were holding it instead of tapping it.
