Is it worth upgrade from i7 7700K to i7 9700K?

My specs:
i7 7700K (default no OC), RTX 2080 Super, 16 Gb ddr4 and play this game on SSD Nvme Adata Sx8200 pro 1 Tb.

Will it boost performace for RDR2 if i upgrade to i7 9700K?
My setting 1440p, Ultra-high only get 60-70 FPS. sometime drop to 55 FPS.

i dont think you will get enough of an improvement to justify a CPU upgrade just for RDR2

No not for RDR2. Even with a RTX 2080 Ti you'd still be GPU limited with a 7700k. Basically those newer CPUs are not faster than our 7700k, they just have more cores. If a game doesn't take advantage of those cores then it's a 0% performance improvement. Only overclocks and faster RAM can provide single thread fps gains. But in order to get that that means throwing away your old RAM and buying really expensive faster RAM and buying a whole new motherboard plus the CPU. For what? It won't even help performance in most modern games especially at 1440p. Wait until Intel puts out a CPU with 10+ cores that has at LEAST 15% higher IPC and maintains the same clock speeds you get out of your 7700k.

If it was free, sure.. I wouldn't pay for the CPU upgrade. you're more GPU limited, even with that 2080 Super.

You'd need a new motherboard, RAM and CPU... Its not a big enough upgrade to justify that imo

With that said, if you can get a bit of an overclock on your existing CPU, you could squeak an FPS or two

getting a 9700k at this point would be pretty stupid. prices have not gone down and you would have to get a new mobo too. paying that much now to be on an old platform with no pci-e 4.0 going forward makes no sense. and it would still only be 8 cores 8 threads and even next gen consoles will have 8 cores with 16 threads. just wait until Ryzen 3 comes out and get at least an 8 core 16 thread cpu. if you want Intel then wait a little longer for rocket lake.

Your cpu is enough in that cases is better to wait the new gpu nvidia 3000 for upgrade only the gpu.

I have the same processor but intels line up has been lame recently compared to ryzen. I guess wait for future hardware or price drops.

Save your money for a GPU upgrade. Until Intel gets on 10nm and a new architecture, or supports DDR5 you won't see enough of an improvement.

You should've pre-ordered the b550 for cheap like I did. And you can't beat ryzen value right now. With the b550 you get pcie 4.0 from the cpu lanes. So you can still get pcie 4.0 for gpu and storage. You just don't get chipset pcie 4.0. So your other pcie expansions are only 3.0 and 2.0.

Still awesome though and worth looking into if you are unhappy with your current platform. You could score a new b550 if your lucky and then wait for new ryzen. The b550 will support future cpu.
