surround sound
When playing this game with 5.1 audio the audio from the far speakers is much quieter than the front ones. is this normal?

There is a setting under audio for changing the speaker config of the surround sound. You can set the rear speakers to "far" and it will up the volume on them. But, imho, the overall surround sound in this game is not well balanced. Most (but not all) of the music volume is way too low on surround sound. Audio positioning can be really bad with npc voices that are close. Stereo/headphones or 2.1 everything seems mixed fine. But it works well enough and I like being able to know that shot came from behind me far to the left.

Just use Stereo and then Windows Sonic. It isn't TRUE SS but it's fine enough.

yes it does
there are options for it in the options menu

problem is that the rear channels are very quiet
and to make matters worse there is no seperate voume for things which would normally only come through the front speakrs such as music.
