Ardennes just stops and then bucks me off every time a cougar shows up

I bought this horse specifically so it wont do that. lv4 bonding btw. What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. Horse bravery is apparently completely random.

Cougars are the one thing all of my horses will throw me off over. However, comforting your horse may stop him from throwing you.

The problem is I have no time to react. Horse bravery being random is really annoying tho... Funny how I took the black horse at the start and he hasn't bucked me off yet. Thanks for letting me know about this.

Is it even possible to fight it after the first attack?? In story its easy with the slow motion but online? Thats why I move slowly into it's spawning area's instead of sprinting....I want to hear and see it before it sees me:)

Because you can only counter one cougar pounce，after that you either kill it or run away，the game wont allow you to counter it twice

I kill them after the first pounce half the time. Use the double barrel shotgun or any other shotgun I guess. Don't rely on dead eye in sutuations like that in mp

Edit: I have no time to react on horse, plenty once it drops me off. Seems a little bugged honestly. The horse literally stops and continues and in the meanwhile the cougar gets to me, then turns back and then starts running at me again once I'm up.

Ok but if you get dropped off you ll loose the weapon you had in your hand, and all gets blurry blue and the game seems unwilling to let you draw a weapon right? Especially after the first attack...now I read that one can press B to get oput of its claws, didnt tried that yet, been to damn busy smashing TAB for my shotgun :)

Yeah I set my shotgun on Tab and just mash it ready to RMB, you can press F after it grabs you but I have no idea about pressing B to get out of its claws. Iirc for me it doesnt go blue but I may be wrong. I can't really focus on that detail lol.

Ok so it just happened, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cougar showed up. I missed cause Im a professional and my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horse bucked me off. My gun was still in my hand. Then I missed again cause Im a professional but got a white hitmarker and I pressed F when it got me and survived. My screen went bluish and my gun wasnt in my hang anymore. Then I missed again and I died, B didnt do anything. Came back and shot that piece of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ with incendiary shells.

When cougars/wolves/panthers/bears attack get off your horse immediately, run for the nearest big rock and climb up on it. The animals should not be able to get to you and you can shoot.
If there is no rock nearby or you can't get to it cougars/panthers can be thrown off once and then you get a chance to shoot. Takes some practice.
Sometimes they are going to get you no matter what you do.
The sound of a charging grizzly still puts fear into me even after all my play time.

Professional ? Do you mean ,you don't use Dead Eye , yet ? Well, another way I do it is to when the horse gets skittish ,I bump him up to a trot for I know something is coming, whether it is wolves , grizzlies, cougars, highwaymen,then out run them for a ways till they are not following, jump off the horse and run back before they despawn and track them, then make the kill, works well when you need a 3 star pelt. You will develop your own strategy,

For a cougar I may need to start getting off but everything else is a cake. Especially the brown bear near emerald (?) station. I don't even need to stop anymore, I just pull out the double barrel and shoot twice in the general direction and it's dead. I mean, it dies from 4 shots of the Winchester so it really isn't an issue considering it's size and how slow it is.
Regarding other animals, dodging works nice, but there's a bit of time before you can shoot again.

I can't outrun a cougar with the Ardennes, I can't deadeye a cougar with 25-30 fps and it's easier to just get a white hit marker and stagger him. Maybe I can outrun them if they spawn like on the side of me, 90 degrees or something, but they usually spawn within 45 degrees of me in either side. I find out running everything and then going back boring personally. Also jumping on a rock.

Oh, now, I see your situation ,your horse is too slow and you're not able to use Dead Eye properly. If a cougar attacks me ,I just use Dead Eye and kill the cougar before the horse bucks me off, with that one exception when I couldn't get a clear shot and wanted a 3 star pelt. I hope you can tweak your computer and bring up your performance level to help you with the fps.

Nah I don't really care, I was hoping I'd find a horse that wouldn't buck me off when it sees a cougar tho. Too bad, I'll just deal with it I guess.
