Wolf attack tip.
I just happened across this by accident (panic) yesterday. If you hit F as the wolves attack you on the ground - you kick that one and he will run away enough for you to get a shot in. Used it again today and worked again.

If you are holding a pistol or revolver you will knock out NPCs. Same with the rifles. Predators are easy with poison arrows they never get close enough.

I use it a lot when wolves ambush me. Doesn't always keep them at bay because with more than one wolf the other wolf will attack me in between my kicks of the first wolf.

Kicking lowers pelt quality. Bunny hop to a rock then climb up, the movement disrupts bite animation.
