How do I finish The Sheep and the Goats

I've escaped Valentine, but am still inquest. Must not be a bug cause no one else has the problem, went through a couple of walkthrus, nothing seems out of place. This is the second time it's happened, I just logged last time it happened.

So by escaped valentine you mean after Leviticus Cornwall had john and Strauss hostage and you saved them and fought all the lawmen? If so you have to flee the area until the wanted level goes away and then ride back to camp at horseshoe overlook.

you do have quite a while before you need to go back to camp, i did several side missions and some hunting/fishing before i returned, if you really take your time someone will come looking for you and ask you to return to camp .
