Is 8GB ram enough for this game?
Hi, I have a mid range PC.
CPU: I5-7600k
GPU: 1060 6gb
I am worried about buying this game, because I only have 8GB of DDR3 ram. (2133 mhz, 2x4GB)
Technically it should be enough for the majority of games, but I experience excessive stuttering playing some games, for ex: Division 2 (unplayable after 15 mins of gameplay), COD Warzone, even sometimes in GTA Online (fps drops, stuttering while driving). Considering RDR2 is a newer game made by Rockstar, I expect it to stutter a lot.
Any experiences with 8GB ram PC's? How does the game run?

nope
game uses around 9.5gb ram with dx 12
and 10-11gb ram with vulkan
and you'll need another 1.5gb for OS(windows)
so get 16gb ram buddy

Yea, but remember, most of the games use more ram if you've got plenty. GTA 5 works the same way, it uses around 6 gigs if you have 8GB of ram, meanwhile it uses 10-11gb if you have 16 gigs.

I don't have the game on Steam, but I play it through the Rockstar launcher and it runs fine on my laptop with 8 GB RAM. I don't really know if it matters, but I do play on lower graphics settings

Could you tell me the other specs? What kind of ram do you have? What resolution do you play on?

it uses only 6gb cause your OS is using the remaining 1.5-2gb ram

game ram usage don't vary too much most of the time
gta 5 for me starts at 5 and slowly increases till 8gb then slowly varies 8-8.5

there are exceptions

My PC Specs
Ryzen 5-1400
16gb ram ddr4 2400mhz oc'd to 2700mhz(8gbx2) dual channel(a must for Ryzen)
Zotac mini 6gb gtx 1060
Gigabyte B350-AHD3
2tb hdd at 7200rpm

"gta 5 for me starts at 5 and slowly increases till 8gb then slowly varies 8-8.5" - so that's why my game starts stuttering after a little while. It's odd, only because my friend has literally the same pc as me, but he plays almost all 3 games I mentioned without a problem. No stutter whatsoever, except for the Division 2.

The gpu Vram is good in my opinion and meets teh demans, for me that the most important as RDR2 GPU Vram is the key.
When the game is loaded you enter settings and run a bench test.
It played great for me running windows 7 x64 prof
intel i5 3.4 GHz
16 gig of ram
1060 nvidia 3 gig Vram and that was a bit low but updating drivers to the latest fixed that.
You can check the resolution that best matches your gpu Vram
PSU 800w.
As far I can see it will run fine if you have lowered the settings but add another 8 gig of matching ram and it will be sweet
Buy this game for Story mode.

Bench test 4th April

8gb will be barely enough ram to run it unless you got other apps running in the background, try to get up to atleast 12-16 ram, then you'll work it amazingly along with running things like OBS and Discord in the background

Yes you can but be sure to up Virtual memory to 8GB min and 16max the faster the disk the better so recommend set it to SSD/MVME drive. HDD is ok for just stop freezing and crashing at cast of framerate.

nah dude
game will start stuttering in less than 2 minutes regardless of how much ram he frees up

RDR2 was the first game I played on my first PC (8 GB of RAM) It ran fine. I had the highest graphic settings for most of the game, even after I finished and installed mods, the game still ran good. My pc has a GTX 1660ti and a Intel I59400f with 8gb of ram. With my specs the game ran great and it is by far my favorite game ever. It is a masterpiece.

it's cause he has 1660ti and i5 9400f(6 core cpu) (both can easily do 60 with 16gb ram)
so yeah maybe he can run it in 30-40 with 8gb ram
but with an i5 7600(4 core cpu) and gtx 1060 (can barely get 60 at 1080p lowest settings)
so you can't Run it
Look at ram usage here

I Tried Direct X-12
Too many stutters
Direct X 12 in this game is not good unless you have 6 core cpu

My Ryzen 5-1400 only has 4 cores although it has 8 threads
while your i5 7600 has 4 cores 4 threads but higher IPC so it'll manage with 16gb ram

Can i run this game on AMD Ryzen 5 4600H with Radeon graphics, NVDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti and 8 Gb ram

When the minimum spec on the store page is 12GB, it means the game can run on 8GB but if you experience ANY issues, it's on you not the game or the company. Try it, you can always refund if tested hours stay under 2h.
rotimaros Mar 23, 2023 @ 3:13am
mine playable with ram 8gb (2x4 2666mhz) cpu i5 6600, gpu 1060 6gb
fps about 30-40, but in Saint Denis, drop to 20-30 when night
