Restart mission vs restart checkpoint....seriously?

I love the story but man this restart mission thing is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I have twice now accidentally restarted mission instead of checkpoint. First time was no big deal. Second time was the mission with Hosea on the hunting trip. I only failed because I realized I didn't have a rifle so went back to try and get it from my horse but apparently that's a fail? I then accidentally hit restart mission instead of checkpoint...and it puts me aaaaaaaaalllll the way back at starting camp??? Before doing the shire horse trade?? Seriously? FFS.

Sadly, this game has a lot of broken game mechanics IMHO. And that's strange, because GTA V was more polished.

Well when you hit restart mission it puts you back to where the mission started.

Played for the first time today. I didn't know the difference so I pressed the one far left because it's the first. Thanks Rockstar, I lost 30min of progress while I'm trying to judge if I like the game. Maybe a "are you sure" is needed because ♥♥♥ that.

Checkpoints are for when you want to just clear a mission, restart is for when you want to do the whole thing in one go. And they both say what they do quite clearly.

However, please note that if you need to replay a mission in order to get Gold Metal; you can not use Restart Checkpoint to achieve that IF the mission requirement includes something like a time limit.
