Option 2: Spare his life: crouch, use lasso and then hogtie'em. Beware of nearby peeps cuz the guy gonna shout. You can slice him after that if u want.
Anyway, Arthur / John are outlaws. They kill people so why bother? Honor losses? Regain it later by greeting folks. And if you don't want to lose honor, just hide and go pass through them from behind. Pretty Harder but hey being the Good instead of the Bad is so risky.
They dont die. Its just the screen effect that happens, if you shoot them it will kill them.
As Sewer said too, it's just the screen flash might make you think you killed them, but if you aim your gun at their body, it should turn red meaning that they are still alive, otherwise, the gray reticule means dead.
