Varmint ammo is for the varmint rifle.
I thought the varmint ammo could be used with any rifle for better pelts.
Is the varmint rifle worth getting? Does the quality of pelts improve enough to warrent the cost of it?
You can get 3 star pelts from rabbits, badgers, skunks, animals around that size.
For perfect 3 star animals like small birds, frogs, squirrels, and snakes you need to use the bow with small game arrows.
The varmint rifle has its own type of ammo, which would be .22lr in real life.
Anything else in the game that is a rifle (Springfield, Bolt Action, Carcano, and Rolling Block) uses the same ammo type.
The game makes a distinction between rifles and sniper rifles in the sharpshooter awards section, but it's all the same ammo.
