First Person Still A Gimmick
There's something about first person in Rockstar games that doesn't feel right. I thought it was the FOV at first, but even with an FOV mod, it still feels clunky and weird. In my opinion this game is not playable through the first person. Unless you've got the bar so low you're willing to accept anything. The mods don't actually fix the limited FOV either. The mods create just as many problems as they attempt to solve, by visually distorting cutscenes, missions, or anything where the camera angle changes (like using a store). It blows my mind that first person seems to be such a task for Rockstar. It makes me appreciate some of the more professionally developed first person games.

Also, there's a lot of people who seem to say "First person sucked in GTAV, BUT THEY REALLY NAILED IT IN RDR2!!". This is complete and utter BS. It was probably a marketing theme created and spread around by Rockstar. It's the exact same system as GTAV.

First Person was made for cinematic stuff in mind, not gameplay.

Is that stated somewhere by Rockstar, or are you just making an excuse for them with an assumption you've pulled out of your rectum?

i kinda like first person myself. yea view is limited but seems realistic to me a persons peripheral is only so far we don't have eyes on side or back of head.

stop crying and play in third

I played all of single playing in 1st person and thought it was awesome. It added a lot to the immersion for me at least. (same with GTA)

Late to this discussion but I agree wholeheartedly with OP.
Got this game knowing it was 1st person according to the evidence available, yet only an hour into the main mission there is too much cinematic cut scenes & swapping auto between 3rd & 1st person view.
Is there a way to keep the view in 1st person as much as possible all the way through the main quest?

It's one of those things that you have to do for a little while to get used to. For me, first person is helpful for gunfights in confined spaces like houses or buildings, especially when using a controller. Also, while on horse back, traveling in one direction and being able to turn around to keep an eye on, or fire on someone, or something.

r* made fps horrible on purpose. Looking around the camera swings unbearably and the snap back on the horse is annoying af.

Yeah, same experience here, heard at the beginning that they finally implemented a proper 1st person but bs from journalism as always. They seem like the did a quick bigger effort than in gta5 but that's about it. The movement sucks ♥♥♥♥ for the 1st person, the aim drags a weird acceleration that doesn't have the 3rd person and you are missing some of those gorgeous animations of 3rd which are one of the big jewels of the game.

Do you use iron sights (MMB "up) or just the crappy dot reticle?

Ok, thanks for the replies.
I'm on PC. Know this is an old thread but RS got my $ now & very disappointed in 1st person mechanics. Never liked 3rd person games period.
Un-immersive & don't like looking at my characters back all the time.
Oh well, back to Bethesda RPG again! even though they are clunky at least 1st person play throughs in FO & ES series are playable.

Never buy RS games again no matter what BS journos spew out about how fantastic a game is even if they mention 1st person playing.

Yup, roll the wheel forward while ads to actually ads. Recently figured it out

The issue with first person is that it feels stagnant. It doesn't feel like you're looking through the eyes of your character, it just feels like you're viewing through a camera or something. that's floating.

I do all my gun play in 1st person have no idea what some of these complaints are about
my only complaint is the auto centering of the head that is annoying as ♥♥♥♥ and you cant turn it off
but that only happens on horse back
for gunplay i kill 5 to 1 vs my mate who plays in 3rd all the time gun play in 1st person is far better
