No need to buy weapons, food or ammunition. The only time i spent money is for arrows and horse revivers, clearing bounties i get for doing main missions and upgrading the camp. Thats about it and the main missions give more than enough to cover all of it.
I red that a specific treasure map can get you up to 1000 bucks by finding two gold bars though, and can be done very early into the game, but again, i dont see much of a reason to do it, especially because selling gold bars can only be done when you have the specific fence unlocked and that also happens quite late into the game.
Having guns and other things locked behind a story is generally a bad idea, it allows you to do the game only one way, the way it was designed, leaves no room for a second playthrough unless you want to keep doing the same stuff.
I've done 2x 100% playthroughs with all companion gifts and gold medals and all crafts etc, the second time was not anywhere near the fun i had the first time.
I would say the game offers one solid playthrough, other than that its online which sucks compared to the first game.
So yeah, the game is kinda overrated, the only reason why i allow it to be so is i am a big fan of western games, i mean how many good western games can you mention besides the rdr franchise, i grew up with spaghetti westerns back in the 80's so its hard to disappoint me with a western game.
That's pretty much R* game design, didn't evolve in years, sure is open-world, but freedom pretty much doesn't exist.
Not that i think it's wrong or anything, i've bought all of their games since GTA: Vice City, but they could surely improve on that aspect, you can keep a good narrative and character development, and still give more than one or in the best scenario (RDR2) two ways to deal with a mission.
My money is about 800$
1) hunting gives u from 2-90$ based on skin or legendarity ...
2) bounty hunting ( after this i aint alowed in that first city 😂) - 20-60$ based on how stages and how mad is hunted one...
3) fishing - legendary fish is like hunting -60$
4) train roberies -100 to 500$ ( i get ~15 from passenger and 3 safes :50 each )
5) helping anybody -helped some guy in forest, later riding tru city he just gifted me any gun i wanted ...:550$
Yeah, if they improved on that aspect i believe we could be in for one hell of a game, it still is game of the year for me though, i'll give it that.
Step 1) Put together an "outlaw" outfit and store it on your horse. (it's best to use a mask, but if you don't have one just be sure to always wear a bandanna with it) - Make sure to also have your regular clothes stored on your horse (so you can switch back to them - very important)
Step 2) When you find a train, switch to your "outlaw" outfit (make sure your face is covered!) and ride up alongside it to jump on board (at least 3-4 cars up from the caboose) Once on board whistle for your horse to make him follow the train.
Step 3) Start robbing people while keeping an eye on your minimap. As soon as you see the two red dots appear at the front and back of the train, that's your cue to leave. At this point whistle for your horse again and quickly make your way back up to the top of the train.
Step 4) Once on top of the train, look for your horse. He should be coming up alongside the train. Jump from the train onto his back and ride out of the wanted circle as quickly as possible. Once you're outside the circle (and the wanted meter is going down) switch to your regular clothes and remove the mask/bandanna.
At this point if any lawmen spot you they will most likely ignore you, and if they don't you can almost always bluff your way past them with the "defuse" option. = No bounty.
You can't clean the entire train out (for that you have to hit the train while it's in the tunnel - so lawmen can't reach you while you rob it) but I can usually get away with robbing two whole cars full of people without a bounty.
Just take the loot to a fence for easy money (Tip: hang on to the most expensive stuff like gold bars and jewelry bags until you reach the epilogue)
The main thing is to make sure you have everything about your "outlaw" outfit unique. Even having the same gun holster or hat can be enough to get you recognized.
And of course make sure your guns are put away by the time the lawmen spot you, and you can't have any blood on you (unless you have a dead animal on the back of your horse)
The first one you get is the Jack Hall Gang Treasure, which you need to find a "explorer" guy that sells the map to you for 10$. The guy is a bit to the left of flatneck station.

No there is a difference between full face mask and bandana.
