Trees with TAA looks atrocious
My settings are Xbox X-like (by Digital Foundry), so it's a mix of low/mid, sometimes high. One thing that bothered me when I started playing is that trees looks somewhat cartoony. I wondered if it's because my settings are far from ultra, but you can only switch tree tasselation on/off and set tree LOD, but these settings don't affect the looks of leaves up close at all.
One time I decided to play with antialiasing and look what I found:
Personally I will play this game downscaled from 4K from now on (or 2K with MSAA x2) even if it costs me half the framerate because you only have two options: shimmering on leaves/grass/beard without AA or smudged washed off vegetation with TAA.

Okay, here's a screenshot of 1080p TAA + sharpening from Nvidia control panel (default settings):

Leaves are still smudged all over.

My experience with TAA since it's release is that it makes colors washed out and makes some things even blurrier than FXAA. I've never been a fan of it and it's the first thing I turn off in any game. I won't deny the performance gains of using it over FXAA or MSAA but it's just not worth the visual sacrifice to me.

i dont have this problem using radeon sharpening, in fact i wish radeon could make a slider to decrease sharpening. Maybe nvidia have a slider? is on max?

I prefer TAA over no AA because without it all the jagged pixels look like rubbish. However with TAA it's not great either since everything looks washed out. For me using the sharpening via the Nvidia overlay (ALT+F3) makes it look perfect. No jaggies and a crisp clear image.

Crysis did trees better years ago. :emofdr:

Personally I think trees with TAA look better than using Msaa. You didn't notice all the leafs on the trees that disappear when using Msaa? Your own screenshots show how much fuller the trees are with Taa. Msaa can remove fine details especially with vegetation.

It´s weird, having fxaa on or off dont do almost anything to the image quality and i would say it uses 1 fps or less rofl

best to set nvidia control panel to default setting and let the game control gpu, using both causes hardware software conflict, games are designed to control the gpu, always have been.

Yeah I noticed that you lose vegetation details with MSAA on, but with TAA things get even worse. So the only way to get pretty leaves is downsample (?)

I don't mind how the trees in the distance look in a static pic: https://i.imgur.com/8LebIkt.jpg, but, when in motion, I'm seeing a similar kind of black dot dithering effect on objects in background, and that does bother me (here it's used on objects in foreground obstructing the camera, which I'm fine with).

TAA makes it look like fortnite. gotta upscale or run at higher resolution for it to look good I found out but I want 60fps and don't have the hardware for this game to look as advertised right now so Red Dead Fortnite it is.

we all have to stop and admire the pretty leaves for a while sometimes, if we don't it spoils the whole game for some reason. i'm off to find some new nits to pick

that is true, it looks better with radeon shaperning or similar from nvidea, it will be 100% sharp, the mix of amd tool and taa sharpening in game and finding the sweetspot can be a little boring but in the end will look a lot better.
