It used to be a year later the game would be reduced to half price. That was back when full price was still $50. These kids have created the $60 price tag as well.
Out of my almost 200 game Steam library I have paid full price for exactly two games. The Witcher 2 and 3. Everything else I picked up on sale, some times, dirt cheap. Like Euro Truck Sim 2, which I bought for $3.74.
This game I was excited for until it released console only. A year later it finally comes to PC at full price. At this point, I have lost most of my interest in the game, it's already been a year and it will be quite a while before it goes on sale to $20, which is the most I would buy it for, now. Same thing for GTA V, it's been on sale but I lost interest waiting for the sale. I lost interest in the new Metro game once they pulled it from Steam to sell on Epic. It's a no buy for me, now. Same with Rebel Galaxy. No buy.
So, I figure I will probably never buy RDR2. Saves me a ton of money for real world things, I tell ya. Got a nice racing wheel setup, new hand gun for some real life 'pew pew', some chrome rims for my car. All with money I usually spend on PC games.
I used to get angry about it but now I just repurpose (yes Steam, this is a word) my money.
Got PC sale numbers? Not being a ♥♥♥♥ jsut curious to see them
There are more console users than PC users that why AAA companies always cater to the bigger market which are console gamers, That been happening for decades. It doesnt matter that consoles have inferior hardware than PCs, As long the game the works without any performance issues and the sales are good. AAA games are normally console ports anyways
Again that doesnt change my point because i bet you wasnt complaining about the price of the PC/PS4/Xbox one version of GTA V which was $60 on launch as well. Instead of complaining about how game publishers are screwing over PC gamers just dont buy the game since you already play the hell out of the PS4 version or wait for a sale. Its not a dictatorship when you're not forced to buy a product.
Also let go of your PC elitism crap, Its immature and very dumb
5 EUROS MAYBE I'LL BUY?
It's not just inferior hardware. It's also inferior values, inferior skills, inferior game-design etc...
The hardware performance is the tip of the iceberg. It's a bit like the difference between mobile gaming and console gaming. Console gamers don't care about their games. They don't do much research before playing, it's often free, often full of ads, they don't care... So the games are simple and dumb.
Well, you see the gap between console and mobile gaming? Well, there is a significant gap between PC and console gaming too. It's less obvious.
And of course, games that work on console can work on PC easily. And simple PC games can work on console too.
Cut the games into three "size" categories, small, average and big.
Small games can work on mobile, console and PC.
Average games can't work on mobile.
But is there a big game on console? I doubt that. Developing on console deny you access to "greatness". I can't define it accurately as I lack the necessary skills. But I know no great game on console.
GTA5 is a big game... But it's not. It's not state of the art, a lot of things are missing. Multiplayer is weak, physics are weak, the driving is weak, the flying is weak... But the game can be fun. And this is what it takes to reach a large audiance and sell millions of copies.
On PC, ARMA III is a big game. And it seems like they need more resources to reach their full potential. But they did so many great things with the limited resources they have. Like the penetration values for projectiles. Each projectile got a penetration value, speed, weight etc whatever... So you can use advanced tactics. If there is infantry behind a wall, you take a heave machin gun and mow them down.
And ARMA III can't work on console. And they will probably will never know success like any title from Rockstar. But they have my respect as they tried something ambitious.
Metal Gear Solid is a great game with a wonderful story. But it's not a great game. Many aspects are counter intuitive to let the game be playable.
I don't remember, but I didn't pay full price for GTA5 neither. I waited for sales. I got it at 25$. But they released all the versions of GTA on PC.
Nah, it's true, and it's fun. I enjoy it and find it funny most of the time. Sorry bro, not stopping. Console peasants will have to sell their console, buy parts and build a PC.
So easy to join the Master Race.
I never said "this game isn't worth 60$" I said "I'm not paying full price because they forgot about PC in RDR1 and they made us wait."
They focus on the easy money on console. I'm not rewarding that. They hate PC because we are difficult customers? I will show them difficult customers.
He's going to show them just how wrong it was to offend a pc nerd. They're getting his warface. A full magazine of hollow tipped impotent rage.
I actually agree that a lot of PC games are widely dumbed down for consoles (or, not dumbed down as much as just not taking advantage of what a PC could do) and THEN ported to PC. So even when they enhance a game for the PC port, it's still an enhanced console game. Yeah, it's unfortunate but that is how the gaming market works. There are still plenty of good games developed for PC for people who need that, but no amount of protest will stop console gamers from influencing the gaming industry like they are now.
Their goal, is to make money. Releasing to consoles and wating a year to release on PC has definitely made them more cash than if they released on every platform at the same time.
Just in my workplace I know quite a few people, myself included, who has bought it twice.
Good grief, why do I even bother writing in this dumb thread. OP has his mind set and is utterly oblivious to marketing and reasoning just because he has an opinion.
I'm out.
Cheers.
My personal opinion is that I now agree, but not because of the dev's business decisions. I bought it, installed it, played for an hour, then had some issues I could not resolve that kept me from continuing so I refunded it. To me, it's not worth $60, it's worth 0 but I'll check it out again some time in the future. After some stability improvements, or maybe when I upgrade my rig it might be worth $60 to me again, and who knows by then I might even be able to get it for less.
But I don't feel like a victim. I did the research, took my chances, and dealt with the outcome. Sure I feel disappointed but not cheated, and I don't hold Rockstar guilty of anything other than being a for-profit PC game publisher.
So... Yeah... As a customer, I feel entitled. Sue me.
In my world a customer holds the power. In fact, in my business, I refund customers if I don't reach the objectives we have set in the beginning. 100% satisfied or I work for free and lose time and money.
Customer is like a king. You don't mess with him. You give him the best you can do and we will see about profits laters.
We can't lose ground like that. Either things are getting better or they are getting worse. Two directions. And right now, they care more about money than about making a good game. This is a problem.
