Vulkan

the game didn't work well on Vulkan in the first couple of weeks, they have fixed the issues for the most part, Vulkan is better, but you need to make sure to have nvidia driver 441.34 or better.
Vulkan for me

alright I'll try vulkan thanks guys.
DX12 runs poorly for RDR2.

yes its not reporting vram correctly, I bought the game standalone on rockstar launcher last month and it keeps telling me that my 2080 has 6gb ram

also to answer OP's question, I have been playing for about a month. I bought it standalone from rockstar and I recommend using vulkan it runs a tiny bit better i get like 5-10fps more than on dx12.

RTX 2080
I7 6700k
16GB DDR4
and the game is on a sata ssd

Do you know if this is a cosmetic issue or is it actually not using the missing vram ? Im missing about a gig on my 1050 ti according to the rtdr2

In Red Dead Redemption 2, there is no visual difference between selecting Vulkan or DirectX 12. The only differences between them are how they interact with your PC hardware. The way the game performs with these APIs can differ depending on what hardware is being used. Based on the earliest benchmarks are reports from players, Vulkan offers slightly higher average frame rates (< 5%), while DirectX 12 offers a slightly smoother experience overall (particularly on NVIDIA graphics cards). Frame rate fluctuations are less intense using DirectX 12, so it may feel a bit more consistent in practice, even if benchmarking shows it to be slightly behind Vulkan when calculating raw frame rates.

No i do not think that it matters, The only thing i can think of that would affect you from this is that the game wont let you select the settings you want because it wont let you go above the limit. With that said its not like you are going to run with high/max settings anyways on your GPU so it should not matter. If you want to see how much Vram the game is actually using I suggest downloading MSI afterburner.
