Error - RDR2 exited unexpectedly
Hello,

Does anyone have this issue ? https://imgur.com/a/FqnMh9i

When I launch the game through steam, I have the R logo appearing from the Rockstar launcher and then after 15 seconds or so I have this error message blinking extremely fast and then the launcher close.

I have the Nvidia UI showing like it usually does when I launch a game but here I wasn't in the game at all. I have 0 issue with all the games I play.

These were the issues 2 months ago when the game came out for pc on launcher. Steam releases it late and people acting like it's a new issue. You need to follow their fixes in disabling anti virus and setting permissions to admin and then back to normal, followed by a restart. Once you have loaded up the game once, you can put everything back to the way it was. Worked for me.

Check your antivirus software. Make an exemption for rdr2. If you use bitdefender, listen carefully. There are 2 places you need to put the exemption. Under the protection tab you must enter it in "antivirus" and "advanced threat defence." Most other antivirus software has only 1 place to do this and therefore some of them had immediate succes at launch but bitdefender user were struggeling because they didnt do it in the "advanced threat defense" tab also. If you dont know how to make exemptions, turn off antivirus and advanced threat defense for a while and see if it works.

Dont know if its been suggested, but try unplugging controller and start rdr2 again - i know it sounds silly, but it worked for me

ihad to run steam as administrator and unplug the controller until after the game launches... only way icould make it not crash

I have no controller plugged, I run steam as admin and I've the "services" unchecked, I'm still riddled with the error. It's ridiculous.

What are people telling me afterwards? Just reinstall Windows?
I guess I will buy a xbox controller just to unplug it so my rdr 2 will start.

disable the steam overlay and try again

And also running steam only as admin does not always work, rdr2.exe and rgl exe needs both to be run as admin for some with lack of admin privileges

I switched from Vulkan to DirectX and all the issues were solved for me. Since then I had no crashes and it runs smoothly. Hope this helps someone.

I had the same problem.

I think my problem was the PS4 controller connected via steam. This or the rdr2.exe compatibility modes. I ticket "Run as administrator" and " Disable Full ScreenOptimization".

I also made a bios update, but still had the error (once) afterwards.

Then it suddenly started.
