Red Dead Redemption exited unexpectedly.
My game crashes as soon as its about to go to fullscreen. I tried to follow the feedback from the community and made sure the RDR2.exe and RDR2Launcher.exe were ran as admin, and then instead Steam is opening Rockstar Launcher and then it says I need to buy the damn game in there aswell! WTF

Thanks mate, will try it.
This worked for me, unplugged controller and launches just fine now. Thanks!

Unplugging the controller worked for me too and I was fine for a couple of days with no crashes but now the game suddenly crashes with this same error at random in the middle of gameplay.

Aybody knows any fixes for this?

Anybody knows any fixes for this?

Are you using direct x 12 API or Vulkan.?

For me, Vulkan crashed quite regular, using DX12 not one crash now..

My game crashes after like an hour of playing. When i try to run it as an adminstrator the game cannot be launched. I tried everthing but nothing is working.

Yesterday (2.1.2020) I bought RDR 2 spec ed. Game load to basic menu with settings etc but when I hit "Story" or "Online" game gonna crash to desktop. I tryied all steps from Rockstar support and a lot of hints from net. Nothing works positive. I try to refund for my money on Steam but they said I played 4 hours an NO refund. These 4 hours I spend by restarting the game to solve my problem. F.ck this R.star and Steam...

So upon trying all of the suggestions in this thread and others i sought help from rockstars support chat. they walked me thru a fix i havent seen mentioned anywhere that actually worked for me and hopefully does for someone else as well. Go into the task manager while the game is at the main menu screen and go into the task manager details. Change the priority for rdr2.exe to high and the launcher.exe to low. I went from crashing randomly 0 to 20mins into playing to 0 crashes 4hours in. Hope this helps someone.

Guess I will try this next. My game still crashes randomly after a couple hours in but I guess not as bad as some of you. I've been waiting for Rockstar to release a patch to fix this but I guess they still haven't figured it out.

Here are my specs:
OS Win 10 Pro
i7 6700k @ 4Ghz
M.2 NVMe - Samsung 970 plus 2TB
32GB Ram @ 3200
GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (BIOS Ver. 21)
EVGA RTX 2080 Ti Kingpin (Driver 441.66 using optimized settings based on GFE software)

And the fun thing is that its been like this since the launch, and i think i will not be any better.
I even tryed it on a new computer now, first i played it on I7 4770k with gtx 1080. And now on I7 9700k with a gtx 1080 and a different mother board. And same problems random shutdown off the game, and stuttering not fps drops its like hacking like its going 30 fps. Then suddenly it working flawless for an hour or two. "Fack console ports!!!".
