I attached my 4 Launcher-Logfiles to the Bugtracker-Feed at Github:

Maybe it's useful for the bug-hunting.

I made this guide and have been posting this everywhere for any Linux & RDR2 fans out there and have been struggling to get it running. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2208225966

I just tried with Proton 5.13, no dice. Doesnt even get the launcher going. Click play button, 2 seconds later you can click the play button again.

Try to delete the prefix and then retry. BTW - with AMD GPUs it is running better. Nvidia is missing some needed patches it's driver:

With Proton 5.13 the game runs out of the box. At the first start the Vulkan Shaders were downloaded. And then it started directly.

I only had the problem that RDR2 did not recognize my 4k monitor and I could only set a resolution of 1920x1080. So I had to use a trick and wrote the resolution manually into the config file (system.xml). It is located in the following directory:
/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1174180/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Settings

There I set the two parameters manually in the video-segment:

<screenWidth value="3840" />
<screenHeight value="2160" />

But Multiplayer sucks. When starting Multiplayer I always get the message that the connection had to be terminated because of an error. With the error message 0x20010006.

My system:
OS: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia
KERNEL: 5.5.8-050508-generic (manually updated with the Ukuu-Utility)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
GPU DRIVER: 4.6 Mesa 20.2.1 - kisak-mesa PPA
RAM: 16 GB

I think that the game or generally the games with Linux/Proton run better on AMD graphics cards. I also have no problems with all other games like No Man's Sky or GTA V. Runs everything out of the box.

Deleting the prefix again didn't fix it. I've enabled PROTON_LOG=1 but for the life of me can't find the log created. AMDGPU here.
When using Proton 5.13 don't forget too remove possibly set launch-options.

@Pope`sDU: Are you able to play other Windows Games via Steam and Proton? Or is this your first try? Just to prevent the option that you are generally not able to play.

I can play COD4:WM and Just Cause 4. Also Doom and Doom Eternal worked at some point
Have you an updated Mesa in use? For example (only for Ubuntu or it's derivates (like Linux Mint e.g.)) the kisak-PPA:
Kisak mesa fresh[launchpad.net]
Are you able to play the above mentioned games with 5.13?
What are your system specs?
...
It could be so many reasons ... not easy to say with so less information.
For problems you can use this github-thread and post it there ...
-> https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3291
... or read the previous posted problems and maybe solutions.

Mesa 20.2.1, gentoo on a 3900x with RX580

Forcing those older games to run on 5.13 causes them to break, so that's interesting.
With Proton experimental it (sp and mp) runs out of the box for me.

Does this work on Linux with Proton here on Steam? Any issues during the game? like no voice or crashes etc..

I just bought RDR2 a few days ago, when it dropped to 50% and am running on Linux. There are a lot of Linux reports at proton.db: https://www.protondb.com/app/1174180

My impression is, most of the Linux users who can run it with proton, out of the box, have AMD GPUs. Nvidia GPUs (like mine, RTX 2060) are more trouble.

I could not get through the Social Club set up in the first run using Steam's proton versions, including experimental. I had to install GloriousEgroll proton - https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases - 6-21-GE-2, to get the game to run.

After that, I had one of the ERR_GFX_STATE crashes, I think after the first quest in chapter 1. I changed my RDR2 startup options in steam to "-ignorepipelinecache gamemoderun PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 PROTON_HEAP_DELAY_FREE=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1". I have played 3 or 4 quests since then and haven't had another crash, but not sure if those settings really fixed it. Those crashes seem to be random and there are many suggestions for startup options that may or may not fix it.
