Audio crackling
I noticed that the audio seems to crackle sometimes. This was most noticeable during the opening cutscene when starting story mode, but also sometimes when people are talking. Anyone have any idea why this happens?

I use Logitech G560 speakers.
Same thing happens in COD WW2.

I've had this issue before but haven't in quite some time. It is the audio sample rate. Turn it down to something your card and the game supports. 44100 seems to be the magic sweet spot for RDR 2.

it should not matter WHAT sample rate you are on .its a game not PRO TOOLS OR CUBASE ,.this is why this game is pathetic sad lazy coding
This is simply not true. Rockstar does not control the driver or the hardware at this point. Not all drivers and all hardware can handle the same sample rates. Most do support 44100 but anything above that they may not. It just depends on the hardware and the driver that is installed. But if you are developing for a wide range of PC's you cannot 100% guarantee that all will support every single sample rate. They won't. Obviously or we would not have this thread.

my friend is had nothing to do with the drivers..i have freaking Studio grade Hardware ..meaning it can handle far more sample rate the any other standard sound card .. meaning it like a 4090 Gpu for a sound card to explain it simple in terms .....i have no other game that does this never had ..this is simple BAd and lazy port from Cosole garbage programming ..if THIS gaME CANNOT SUPPORT 16 BIT 44.1 KHZ IT HAS NO BUSINESS BEING IT THE MARKET basic CD quality we as human beings cracked that puzzle YEARS ago
In case this helps anyone. I went to Graphics > Advanced Settings Unlocked > Change from Vulkan to DirectX12 and this seemed to fix the issue for me. For now at least.

Same issue here with focusrite 2i2. It has been over a month from PC release, and there is still no fix.
same focusrite 2x2 studio turning down the music helped
Adjust the Audio Latency bar in the Game Settings. It might help.
If you're using Realtek Audio, well thats crap and thats probably why.
Also the game really needs to run from an SSD.
Running "SFC /scannow" in command prompt completely fixed the problem for me. I've had the popping and crackling sound ever since I recently built a new PC. I tried every solution that was offered online but the sfc command was the one that finally fixed it for me. Hopefully it helps you guys out too.
Shouldn't have to do none of that. Turn the volume down in game. Music score volume at much less than 100%. I turned mine at about 20%, I still get the music well enough and without that static like you blew your speakers. Turn the other volumes down too, see if that helps...
Volume % has zero to do with audio cracking.
Why is it I can use $5 ear-buds or $200 headphones, always sounds good in this game.
Every volume is on 100% and it sounds great.
Music was too loud though so I put that on 30%
Voice Dialogue slider, crank this to the max.

Most people do not take the time to download + install ALL of their Drivers.
If you didn't install all the core drivers, assume they are wrong.

Motherboard Chipset, Audio, GPU(s), LAN, WIFI, BT; etc.

Have the Yamaha mg12xu mixer connected to Yamaha hs7 monitors.
Was having the same issues and after changing the settings to 192khz it seems it has gone but I still think the sound is a little "dirty".. Will keep on checking.
Lowering sample speed on my Asus Xonar Essence STX II to 44.1KHz solved this for me, the only game to ever do this.

So update, when it starts crackling I just open windows sound settings and disable my sound card. Count to 10 then re-enable it and the audio is clean again.

This is ONLY game I have ever had to do this for too. R* will probably have a patch.... In April.
2023 and still waiting on that patch..

I've never had this problem until suddenly, out of nowhere, my audio is crackling like crazy. Been playing this game for years without issue until now.

Hello, the problem is the buffer size.

I have a focusrite and i fix the problem changing from 256 buffer to 128 and no audio crack! :D

Sample rate 48000
Buffer size 128

So try to do that.
Bro how to change buffer size? I am ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ searching like 3 hour but I didn't find it.
I have had the same problem until I ripped out my headphones from motherboard port and jacked it in my Asus screen port, changed the sound settings so that my screen is default sound device and now I am playing crackling free for over 5 days. No other tweaking was applied from my side (driver update, closing apps, bit rate change etc.) Most modern monitors have audio port so try it,see if that solves your issue.
Setting Audio Latency to MAX is what solved it for me, nothing else did the trick, this issue seems to be so varied in how it is even fixed I don't think there is any single answer I'm afraid :c
